Description



The ideal candidate for the ES Benefits Technician position is a detailoriented and organized professional with a strong understanding of Washington State RCW WACs and Unemployment Insurance (UI) Tax services. They possess excellent communication skills both written and verbal allowing them to effectively interact with customers including employers reporting agents legal representatives and other state or federal agencies.
They will excel in performing tasks with precision and urgency assisting the Washington business community in timely filing of their reports and paying their portion of UI tax enabling UI benefit claims to be processed promptly and correctly.

This position is 100 remote; however you may be required to come in the office in Olympia for occasional trainings and meetings.
Candidates must live within a reasonable commuting distance and live within the following counties: Thurston Pierce County Mason and Lewis County.


Duties


This position assists the mission of the department by performing Unemployment Insurance (UI) Tax services requiring knowledge of the Washington State RCW WACs business community reporting agents legal representatives out of state businesses and other state/federal agencies. They will perform program administration and/or provide direct services for a variety of UI Tax subprograms which include precollection of overdue tax reports and account maintenance. This work is accomplished by communicating with customers by telephone or by written correspondence. They will support the agencys mission by ensuring we contribute to healthy communities by assisting Washington employer in timely filing of their reports and paying their portion of UI tax. This enables UI benefit claims to be paid timely and correctly. This position contributes to protecting the integrity of the UI trust fund.

Some of your daily tasks include but not limited to:

  • Receives and responds to routine inquires and questions from customers via phone and electronic correspondence.

  • Provide uptodate information to employers and their duly authorized representatives about their ESD account by giving authoritative information relative to unemployment insurance liability and proper tax reporting procedures.

  • Answer customers basic questions by explaining relevant RCWs and WACs relating to tax liability and reporting requirements; reply to basic inquiries relating to the Employment Security Act coverage and duty to file and pay reportable tax and wages correctly and in a timely manner.

  • Assist employer prepare quarterly tax reports and compute tax interest penalties and assist in preparing or adjusting their agency reports if needed.

  • Provide administrative support to Tax Specialists Lead and Supervisory staff.

  • Performs clerical duties such as closing collection plans adding FEIN to accounts updating addresses from returned mail processing Power of Attorney forms.

  • Review employer accounts and conduct interviews to ascertain tax liability and status.

Qualifications


An Associates Degree

OR

Minimum of at least two 2 years of customer service experience demonstrating proficiency in the principles of effective customer service and interpersonal communication. Strong knowledge of office practices and procedures business English professional letter composition accurate spelling and basic arithmetic.
