The Role
ABC News is looking for a highly motivated multiskilled Rural Reporter in Mildura one of the most unique rural patches in Victoria.
It has the most sunshine hours in the state and is surrounded by a lush irrigation region producing a range of produce including grapes citrus vegetables and almonds as well as dryland farming throughout the Mallee Millewa and over the border into New South Wales.
As a place to live Mildura is a big vibrant wellserviced regional city on the mighty Murray River known for its great food and wine festivals and topclass arts and sports facilities. It is one of Victorias most popular river tourism destinations and is on the doorstep of the Hattah Lakes National Park and the Sunset and Little Desert National Parks.
You are creative highly organised and able to find great rural stories from our community to share for radio digital TV and social media and will love coming to work and connecting with our diverse audience across North West Victoria.
The Job
Reporting to the Editor ABC Wimmera & Mildura Swan Hill you will be responsible for;
- Creating engaging rural and primary industry news and features across multiple platforms for a diverse local state and national audience.
- Preparing and presenting stories for the Rural Report and Country Hour plus other key programs including ABCs 7pm bulletin and News Channel.
- Researching and writing rural stories for Web & App to engage broad audiences across farming industry and consumers.
- Contributing new ideas to increase audience reach and engagement.

About You
You are creative highly organised and able to find great rural stories from our community to share for digital radio TV and social media and will love coming to work and connecting with our diverse audience across North West Victoria.
Youll love nothing more than jumping in the car and hitting the road in Victorias Mallee. Chatting to farmers will come naturally and youll have a curiosity about how they produce topquality food for Australian and international markets.
We are looking for a dynamic Rural Reporter with experience telling audio video and written stories. You will be able to demonstrate that you have;
- Accomplished editorial skills
- A strong understanding of the issues facing the agricultural and primary industries and how they affect the community.
- A creative approach to story construction and delivery
- Experience in live presentation and broadcast
- A passion and curiosity to source and create authentic stories which represent the broad diversity of the Australian community
- Able to travel to remote locations when required
