You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailThe University of Southern Maines Tourism and Hospitality Program is seeking parttime instructor applicants for the upcoming academic years. Our Fall 2025 semester begins September 1 2025.
Courses Include:
Introduction to Tourism & Hospitality (TAH 101 This course is an introduction to the major concepts issues and theories of tourism and hospitality as an economic sector and topic of academic study. The course covers a broad range of topics related to the travel experience from tourism as an industry to the impacts it has on communities and places as well as on travelers themselves. Students will also be introduced to key elements of the hospitality industry and opportunities for employment within this industry.
Lodging Operations & Systems (TAH 321 This course examines operating procedures and systems for managing various types of lodging facilities including hotels resorts and inns. Topics covered include front desk operations reservation systems housekeeping and maintenance inventory management systems guest policies internal and external communication human resources and security and risk management.
Trends & Innovation in Tourism and Hospitality (TAH 415 Students will be introduced to major trends and innovations in contemporary tourism and hospitality with a focus on identifying opportunities for Maine and New England. In addition to studying global and national trends in travel the course will look at specific innovations that create new prospects for tourism in the region or demand for new types of products such as green tourism. Guest lecturers from the tourism industry and trips to experience innovative products or services may be employed.
Hospitality Financial Management (TAH 424 This course covers intermediate and advanced topics in hospitality financial management including accounting for lodging and food service businesses performance metrics across various hotel types profit and loss evaluation topline growth revenue management and systems integration. It also provides an introduction to new business evaluation renovation considerations STAR reporting and tax issues.
We are seeking studentfocused instructors who will be responsible for the full delivery and grading of the course. Responsibilities include developing the course teaching assessing student performance and meeting with students as needed. The instructor will be provided with the course learning objectives program competencies and suggested topical outline and will be given a previous course syllabus available for reference.
The Program in Tourism & Hospitalityis an innovative undergraduate program that capitalizes on the status of Maine as a premier vacation destination with diverse culinary arts events adventure and nature tourism opportunities and an established and thriving hospitality sector. The mission of the program is to create jobready graduates who are prepared to be managers leaders and innovators in Maines worldfamous tourism industry.
Parttime faculty members are paid on a credit hour basis based on prior teaching experience. Eligible parttime faculty members may elect certain benefitsprovided by the University of Maine System. In addition The Center for Academic Innovationprovides learning design consulting and faculty development opportunities to help faculty to create engaging programs courses and lesson plans grounded in evidencebased best practices for every modality.
