Drydock Technical and Maintenance Manager Purpose:
The Dry Dock Technical and Maintenance Manager (TMM) acts as the principal dock technician and as manager of the dry dock maintenance team to provide efficient and timely maintenance services. The TMM is responsible for cleanliness and maintaining the operational readiness of the dry docks systems and all the support system. The TMM also acts as document controller and assists the Dry Dock Engineer in daily operations of the facilities. They work with CMMS to manage databases and to support facility maintenance infrastructure. Coordinates the schedule of dry dock watches for 3 dry docks. The position is located onsite in Norfolk VA and will often require hours beyond a standard work week to include evenings and weekends as needed. Position may require limited travel. Job Description: - Manages key activities in the employee lifecycle for all direct reports including timekeeping job assignments training performance management coaching/counseling and supervision.
- Ensures employees have the necessary tools equipment and work procedures to perform their tasks safely and efficiently while providing direction and oversight for employees conducting repairs.
- Conduct dry dock operations and maintenance management duties.
- Maintains cleanliness of all dry docks interior and exteriors.
- Maintains operational readiness of the dry docks. (Ballast pumps and valves ship handling and Dock control systems)
- Maintains operational readiness of all the dry docks service support systems. Such as (electrical lighting fire main air gasses potable water CHT).
- Coordinate and document preventative maintenance to ensure downtime repairs are minimized.
- Document and issue work orders conduct and monitor repair work both during and after completion to ensure work is completed properly.
- Develop and maintain good working relationships with all relevant trades within the shipyard.
- Monitor and optimize database for maintenance support software and watch standing records.
- Coordinate with software administrators to maintain training and optimize use of maintenance software.
- Coordinate with Facilities Administrator to implement maintenance management system on dry docks.
- Working with various dry dock systems to issue work orders receive products and conduct repairs and installations.
- Maintain a safe and secure work environment.
- The ability to work well with all levels of internal management and staff as well as outside clients and vendors required for repairs.
- Perform departmental training of dry dock related equipment.
- Document control and completion to include Progress Sheets timesheets/charge numbers and Job Safety Analyses on equipment and operations.
- Manage supervise and direct the daytoday efforts of department tradesmen.
- Maintain/inventory spare parts tools and technical database for Dry Dock Maintenance Team.
- Coordinate and track all component certifications calibrations inspections and surveys related to maintaining government dock certification.
Qualifications: - Must have at least seven years of experience in a shipyard and/or industrial maintenance environment.
- Must have knowledge and understanding of both scheduling preventative maintenance and responding to issues that arise and the ability to prioritize and delegate work appropriately.
- Must have knowledge of electrical systems a mechanical background and knowledge of control circuitry
- Must have practical experience in the mechanical field and experience in general equipment repair.
- Must have knowledge of clerical and administrative procedures and systems such as filing and record keeping for repairs and vessel docking documentation as well as data entry.
- Must have strong communication skills both written and verbal.
- Must be able to effectively plan organize and multitask.
- Must have strong problem assessment and problem solving skills.
Travel Requirements: - Occasional Travel; 10 or less.
Physical Requirements: - Sit Stand Walk Bend Squat Climb Reach Push and Pull Stoop Crawl Kneel Balance Lift and Carry various objects and equipment.
- General shipyard/industrial environment. Work has physical demands that require frequent movement up to 75 of the time.
- Lighting and temperature are adequate and there is frequent exposure to hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise dust etc. Hear talk and smell.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.
- Work is performed in both an office environment and a maintenance and industrial environment (drydock) with standard office equipment available but also requires safe navigation and regular partnership with operations teams within shipyard/industrial environments.
- A considerable amount of time is spent operating a personal computer.
- Must be able to climb up and down stairs and spend time moving throughout the facility and onboard marine vessels and drydocks.
