Job Description

Job Summary: The Registered Nurse I assesses plans implements and evaluates nursing care utilizing the nursing process in accordance with hospital standards and unit policies/procedures for the purpose of monitoring and evaluating patient functional status. Job Responsibilities: Utilizes the nursing process to care for patients. Assesses organizes and completes patient care with consideration for patient age cultural and psychosocial factors. Documents steps of the nursing process. Utilizes proper medical terminology. Addresses problems and progress toward goals. Facilitates patient discharge through timely appropriate referrals and utilization of patient education resources suitable to patient age and cultural/psychosocial factors. Collaborates with other disciplines as appropriate. Supports unit/hospital goals through PI and educational activities as evidenced by attending inservices meeting unit education standards and completing variance reports. Independent judgment in planning sequence of operations and making minor decisions in a complex technical or professional field. Works directly with patients and/or customers. Works with internal customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff. Required Skills & Experience: Must have at least one year of experience in PCU/ICU high acuity/critical environment (NOT ER expeience) Working knowledge of general disease state management processes biopsychosocial model and clinical pathways. Effective interpersonal written and oral communication skills. Ability to organize and prioritize work in an effective and efficient manner. Ability to be detail oriented as required in the examination of clinical and numerical data. Required Education: ADN or ASN degree. Required Certification & Licensure: Valid multistate or State of Oklahoma Registered Nurse License. To focus on Key Drivers for Patient Satisfaction Nurse Sensitive Indicators including pain/skin management fall injury prevention infection prevention implementation of goaldriven action plans and recruitment/retention of talent. To provide ongoing education opportunities for nursing staff to increase value to the system as a METHODS / PROCESSES:Care provided but not limited to: The registered nurse must plan direct and evaluate the care of the patient. He/She provides nursing care through assessment reassessment of multisystems falls management restraints management infection control IV administration (peripheral and central lines IV starts and restarts) medication administration (including titration of vasoactive cardiac medications insulin drips narcotics and neuromuscular blockades). Pain management (including PCA medication). Patient/family education wound and skin management assistance with ADLs nutritional and functional assessments ventilator support administration of blood and blood products cardiac monitoring hemodynamic monitoring continuous renal replacement therapy continuous electroencephalogram and moderate/deep sedation. Hospice and comfort measures may be provided to patients when death is imminent or a general nursing unit bed is not / Assessments: blood glucose monitoring pulse oximetry bladder scanning and telemetry. Assist with procedures (thoracentesis paracentesis lumbar puncture chest tube insertion central line placement)Support Services: Care Management Pastoral care Infection Control Nutrition/Food services Dietitian Multidisciplinary Collaboration Team Volunteer Services Environmental Services Laboratory (including blood bank) physical medicine respiratory therapy pharmacy services Renal dialysis Education Security
