Job Summary: The Division of Medical Genetics with the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Utah Salt Lake City and Lehi Utah is seeking a fulltime Genetic Counselor to provide comprehensive genetic counseling services for genetic conditions. This position will have responsibilities for inpatient consultations in addition to supporting the outpatient presence at the Miller Campus located in Lehi. This position also provides the opportunity to participate in the University of Utah Graduate Program in Genetic Counseling with student education supervision and mentorship. Provides information regarding the etiology inheritance incidence/carrier risks and natural history/prognosis for genetic conditions/diseases; facilities patients understanding of genetic medical and psychosocial information including risks testing options and procedures test results and their implications; performs psychosocial assessment during genetic consultation and provides grief and crisis counseling as needed. Formulates genetic testing and/or medical recommendations in collaboration with physicians and team members; facilitates referrals for other family members who seek information; provides medical genetic counseling. Implements or facilitates the recommendations based upon the patientfamily assessment: coordinates request for laboratory services analyzes and interprets clinical/laboratory findings and conveys results to patients physicians and team members; distinguishes complex laboratory results requiring action; seeks appropriate supervision for representation/participation in action; provides reassurance and support to the patient. Evaluates patientfamily care; writes detailed consultation reports conveying complex genetic concepts to patients and referring health care providers; completes chart notes and keeps statistics on outcome; records patient interactions. Working Conditions and Physical Demands: Employee must be able to meet the following requirements with or without an accommodation. Minimum Qualifications
Required Current license as a Genetic Counselor in the State of Utah. Masters degree in Genetic Counseling from an accredited program or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Preferred Licensure to practice in a clinical field.
