Job Description Summary

The Department of Pediatrics are looking to hire an Advanced Practice Provider Fellow. The successful applicant will be an Advanced Practice Provider interested in working fulltime to learn about providing care in Developmental Pediatrics. The APP will join a busy and thriving Developmental Pediatrics Division that includes 5 MD Faculty members 7 PhD Psychologists 2 LISWs Post Doctoral Psychology Fellows and DBP MD Fellows. The Division of DevelopmentalBehavioral Pediatrics operates within the Department of Pediatrics at MUSCs Childrens Hospital and provides comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services for a broad range of developmental and behavioral diagnoses. The Division also runs an innovative clinical research program focused on developmental and behavioral disorders.

Job Title: MUSCP Advanced Practice Provider (APP NP/PA) Department of Pediatrics Division of Developmental Pediatrics


Job Summary/ Purpose: The Department of Pediatrics are looking to hire an Advanced Practice Provider Fellow. Fair Labor Standards Act Status: Salaried/Exempt


Hours per week: 40

Scheduled Work Hours/Shift: MondayFriday 8:00am 5:00pm. October 2025 through September 2026.

Patient Population Focus: Outpatient Department Management/Consultation.

Patient Population Age Range: 0years21 years

Required Training and Experience

Required Minimum Training: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant or completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an APRN as noted below.

  • Physician Assistant

or

  • APRN License Type/Certification:
  • Primary Care Pediatric NP or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PCPNP/PNP): Pediatric patients (birth to age 21 stable chronic disease state management or primary care setting.
  • Family NP (FNP): (birth to death) Stable chronic disease state management primary care across the lifespan.

Preferred Training: Physician Assistant (PA) or if APRN License Type/Certification identified below:

  • Physician Assistant

or

  • APRN
  • PMHNP (Psychiatric Mental Health NP): (birth to death) population foci may be adult only or across the lifespan (must check educational background) care of the psychiatric patient.

Degree of Supervision
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant will be assigned a Primary Supervising/Collaborating Physician employed by MUSC and will report directly to this physician.

Required Licensure Certifications Registrations

All certifications must be current and complete prior to start date:

Basic Life Support (BLS).

If applicable DHEC and DEA license applications must be started prior to first day.

Job Duties (list job tasks)

Provides direct care to patients through the following activities:

  • Takes comprehensive history and performs physical examinations
  • Evaluates and treats on the basis of history physical examination radiological laboratory and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline
  • Performs directly administered developmental screening and assessment tests Screen Bracken Preschool Readiness Test Oral and Written Language Assessment. Modified Peabody Screen Test of Visual Motor Integration CAT/CLAMS Kaufman Brief Intelligence Test. Qb Test
  • Initiates referrals to other health care provides and/or consults with the attending physician or the collaborating physician
  • Documents and bills for direct care provided when appropriate
  • Utilizes current research and evidencebased decisionmaking in all clinical practice
  • Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research
  • Participates in and supports accreditation compliance and regulatory activities of the organization
  • Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education
  • APRN or PA must maintain licenses certifications CNEs/CMEs etc. as required by applicable policies and state law
  • Completion of the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) curriculum
  • Clinics will be in Rutledge Tower the majority of the time with possibility of travel to Summey Medical Pavilion 23 times per month
  • Attends education and academic sessions as determined by APP Lead APP Manager or APP Fellowship Director
  • Completes presentations lectures QI projects or other academic requirements as set by MUSC APP Fellowship Director or Department
  • Participates in required MUSC APP Fellowship activities

Applicants are required to submit a cover letter as part of the application highlighting how the fellowship aligns with the applicants career aspirations. Applicants chosen for interview will be required to send 23 letters of recommendation to the department prior to their interview.

Additional Job Description

Required Minimum Training and Experience: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant or completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required
