JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Introduction
The Department of Biobehavioral Health in the College of Health and Human Development at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a tenuretrack Assistant Professor or early Associate Professor position for candidates using innovative wet lab methods to examine biological influences (such as but not limited to autonomic cardiovascular cellular circadian endocrine genetic immune metabolic and/or neural) on health wellness and/or disease. The ideal candidate will complement and enhance the interdisciplinary strength of the Department of Biobehavioral Health in integrating health science across the medical/biological behavioral and social sciences. The ideal candidate will be expected to engage in multidisciplinary collaborations within the social behavioral or medical/biological fields. There are multiple centers and institutes which offer intellectual hubs for building interdisciplinary teams and internal funding opportunities that would support the development of collaborations across departments colleges and disciplines including: the Child Maltreatment Solutions Network Edna Bennett Pierce Prevention Research Center Center for Healthy Aging Huck Institutes for the Life Sciences Population Research Institute the Clinical Translational Science Institute the Social Science Research Institute and the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. Other relevant resources include a Biomarker Core Lab and the Social Life and Engineering Imaging Center.
Primary Job Responsibilities
Responsibilities of this position include establishing a fundable line of interdisciplinary biobehavioral health research teaching graduate and undergraduate courses supervising and mentoring student researchers and providing service to the Department College University and the profession. Applicants must demonstrate excellence in research a strong publication record appropriate for their stage of career interest in collaboration across disciplines commitment to mentoring students a track record of (or strong potential for) external grant funding and demonstrate a high potential to carry forward such research and funding. The individual would be expected to establish a line of interdisciplinary health research with a focus on innovative wet lab methods to examine biological influences on health wellness and/or disease and with clear funding targets.
Qualifications
For Assistant Professor candidates must possess a Ph.D. or terminal degree at the position start date or a degree that is equivalent to a Ph.D. or terminal degree in the U.S. at the time of hire. Areas of study may include biology genomics neuroscience epidemiology population health biobehavioral health psychology or a closely related field as long as the candidate uses innovative wet lab techniques in their research. Early Associate Professor candidates must possess the same qualifications as Assistant Professor candidates but also demonstrate established excellence in research teaching and service commensurate with the rank of associate professor.
