The Director will provide academic and strategic leadership to the UFS Law Clinic and will be responsible for the daytoday operational management of the Clinic. The Director will be a member of the Law Faculty Management Committee and will serve on other university governance structures. Having a scholarly track record the Director should be eligible to be appointed as Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/Professor contributing to academic scholarship in the UFS Law Clinic and faculty.

Management and Leadership:
Provide leadership and guidance to staff.
Assume administrative and/or leadership duties in the department such as course coordinator; coordination of particular programmes e.g. PhD masters programmes; coordination of particular researchprojects; tutor selection and coordination.
Promote coherence integration and coordination of management of interdependencies and theachievement of departmental objectives.
Assess the performance of Staff against their KPAs.
Apply and Report diligently on Funding where and when needed Accreditation FundingRenewal of Contracts etc.
Review and revise the Law Clinic Strategic Plan.
Identify assess and monitor risks.
Manage plan and submit the budget.
Manage Finances in the Clinic.
Ensure all staff positions in the Law Clinic are filled.
Spend departmental budget prudently.
Oversee monitor and manage the organising of the Kovsie First Year Moot Court.
Serve on School Faculty and University wide bodies as applicable.
Teaching and Learning:
Facilitate effective teaching and learning at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
Assume responsibility for course materials lectures tutorials and assessment of law modules both atundergraduate and postgraduate level.
Contribute to programme management and curriculum development.
Research supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Contribute towards creating a strong academic identity.
Design the curriculum content for the Law Clinic allocated module.
Teach the Clinical Legal Education module in the new LLB Curriculum.
Monitor and improve success rates and pass rates in the module.
Improve staff/student relationships in the module.
Research:
Assist with the development and implementation of the research strategy for the Clinic.
Conduct research and research supervision as commensurate with the requirements of the Clinic.
Undertake independent research and publishing research.
Participate in national and/or international fora to share research results.
Identify and access funding sources to support own research.
Update knowledge and understanding in the field of specialisation.
Engaged Scholarship (Access to Justice):
Strengthen the litigation collaboration of both internal and external stakeholders.
Monitor and increase legal services provision and reputation.
Recruit appoint and train Candidate Attorneys.
Manage the Community Service projects.
Inherent Job Requirements
A doctoral degree on NQF Level 10 in any discipline of Law.
Admitted attorney/advocate of the High Court of South Africa (attach proof).
A minimum of five 5 years relevant experience (teaching research and academic management).
Appointable as lecturer/senior lecturer/associate professor/professor at the University of the Free State.
