Job Description

Do you want to work in a stateoftheart small animal intensive care unit in a veterinary teaching hospital


What you will do at Cornell University Hospital for Animals:

  • Provide excellent patient care with current technology mentorship internal and external continuing education opportunities and most importantly peers who are just as passionate about providing the best care possible as you are.

  • Manage and care for a mix of primary and specialty cases from your vomiting puppy to critical trauma patients.

  • Use and develop your routine and advanced technical skills from venipuncture to triple lumen catheter placement with our busy caseload.

  • Teach and guide our diverse DVM students and house officers through complex treatment plans and technical skill training.

  • Collaborate with multiple specialty services with the opportunity for crosstraining.

We are looking for an experienced Licensed or License eligible Technician with the following skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal communication

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative interprofessional care team

  • Critical thinking and observation skills

  • Meticulous attention to detail when calculating and administering medications

  • Ability to successfully provide critical patient skills such as

    • Urinary catheter placement and care

    • Medical calculations including constant rate infusions

    • Venipuncture and arterial blood sampling

    • Chest tube management

    • Placement and maintenance of central line catheters

    • Using various oxygen therapies such as High Flow and nasal cannulae

The Cornell University Companion Animal Hospital provides round the clock care for small animals 365 days of the year. Our licensed veterinary technicians provide exceptional patient management during:

  • Daytime

  • Evenings (includes shift differential pay)

  • Nights (includes shift differential pay)

What qualifications are required

  • Associate degrees from an AVMA accredited institution plus NYS licensure

  • 13 years relevant experience or equivalent combination.
