Thurston County Public Works is recruiting for an Associate Civil Engineer to join our dynamic energetic and innovative Traffic Operations team. The successful candidate will work as part of an engineering team providing technical expertise in the field of traffic engineering collecting and analyzing traffic data preparing preliminary and final designs and supporting many functions of the Office of the County Engineer.
Essential functions may include but are not limited to the following:
- Prepares preliminary and final designs for assigned capital facilities construction and maintenance plan specifications alignment determinations drainage traffic and pavement designs environmental assessments geometrics capacity and cost estimates and related engineering documents.
- Reviews plans specifications and related documents prepared by engineering support staff and/or outside consultant firms.
- Performs complex site inspections for properties under development to verify design and check the surrounding area for completed developments ensuring the accuracy of the construction and verifying asbuilt drawings.
- Serves as a representative of the County for city state or federal or other agencies joint with agencies to coordinate work and assignments.
- Responds to public requests for information and/or assistance regarding engineering field visits serves as a technical resource and works with citizens to formulate solutions as necessary.
- Performs a wide variety of related engineering work such as preparing complex engineering studies creating reports and researching and drafting engineering policies and procedures as necessary.
- Assists in the preparation of budgets for the capital maintenance and monitoring programs.

Essential Personnel:This position is considered to be an essential worker and may be required to work during nonbusiness hours or closures in order to meet operational requirements and needs.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work Environment Quiet office setting in Olympia Washington. Workload demands may occasionally require work around active construction sites.
- Schedule Monday Friday 8:00 a.m. 4:30 p.m. Workload demands may occasionally require work outside the assigned work hours.
- Travel Requirements Occasional travel may be required to attend meetings or trainings.
- Customer Interactions Daily interactions via phone email inperson and video with Thurston County staff and the public.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering and one 1 year of related civil engineering experience.Additional experience can be substituted for education on a yearforyear basis. OR possession of Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification within six 6 months from hire date. (Note: no substitution will be allowed for the EIT Certification requirement.
- Ability to use computers and related software for construction design traffic and other civil engineering work.
- Valid Washington State Drivers License or have obtained an appropriate accommodation.
