This posting is for position:

Start your journey towards success! We are currently accepting applications for a Network Technician at NC National Guard of the North Carolina Department of Public Safety.

The Network Technician assumes a pivotal role in bolstering the organizations cybersecurity efforts actively engaging in security assessments fortifying network infrastructure integrity and aiding in security measure implementations. Through meticulous security assessments of information systems and networks guided by NIST standards they scrutinize system configurations architectures and security policies to pinpoint vulnerabilities for prompt resolution. Collaborating with development teams and system administrators they ensure proactive security measures align with best practices and interpret DoD STIGs to secure operating systems applications and network components. Adhering to cybersecurity best practices and industry standards they monitor network infrastructure for vulnerabilities work closely with IT teams to implement STIG requirements efficiently and participate in detecting and escalating security threats or incidents. Directing the use of advanced tools like Nessus Pro and Nipper for comprehensive infrastructure evaluations they stay updated on evolving cybersecurity landscapes contributing leadership in adopting cuttingedge solutions. Moreover they maintain meticulous documentation throughout assessments to ensure transparency and accountability. The Network Technician conducts Defensive Cyberspace operations to support mission requirements as directed.

NCNGs cyber team provides continuous cyber support to the States critical infrastructure networks and data from cyber threats by providing responsive and effective cybersecurity capabilities. NCNG partners with State Local Tribal and Territorial organizations to provide proactive and reactive assistance to ensure critical assets are protected and secured against malicious cyber team provides superior cyber defense and security capabilities inorderto protect our nations critical infrastructure and assets. NCNG will leveragethe teams expertise agility and readiness to detect prevent and respond to cyberthreats in support of federal agencies and our countrys cybersecurity posture.

The salary grade for this position isDT03. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as or lower than their current position. If selected for this position a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience funding availability and internal equity. Based upon these factors a pay increase MAY result.

To qualify for this position applicants must demonstrate ALL of the following KSAs:


  • Experience with various network devices such as routers switches firewalls and access points.
  • Experience with fundamental networking concepts including TCP/IP OSI model subnetting and routing protocols.
  • Experience with troubleshooting network connectivity issues identifying and resolving common network problems.
  • Experience with common network operating systems like Windows Linux or macOS.
  • Experience creating basic documentation related to network setup configurations and troubleshooting steps.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of IT experience.
or
an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Other necessary requirements:
Per 5 CFR 731 upon appointment applicant must be able to obtain a favorable suitability and fitness determination from a Tier 1 background investigation conducted by the Office of Personnel Management. Failure to obtain a favorable determination may result in termination of employment.

IAW AR 38067 Chapter 354 Table 31 this position is designated as ADPI and therefore requires a BI/SBI background investigation.
