Department Summary

The Office of the Provost (OtP) is responsible for carrying out the academic mission of the University of Oregon (UO). The office works collaboratively with faculty and staff to enhance academic excellence student success and the UOs overall academic profile. Led by the provost and senior vice president the OtP is a dynamic caring community of colleagues committed to the core values of integrity trust equity collaboration and excellence. The OtP supports and coordinates matters that pertain to faculty success including hiring retention promotion leadership development and tenure processes. We promote the highest standards in teaching research and service working closely with schools colleges and other critical academic units to promote institutional and personal flourishing. We are responsible for academic financial allocations and the alignment of resources with strategic academic priorities. In service to the public mission of the UO the OtP cultivates reciprocal relationships of engagement and outreach with communities at the local regional and national levels and across the globe.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Executive Vice Provost for Academic Affairs the Associate Vice Provost for UO Online & Continuing and Professional Education will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of UO Online & Continuing and Professional Education and is responsible for administrative oversight and coordination of all aspects of online education at the University. This includes providing leadership and oversight to two distinct units UO Online & Continuing Professional Education (CPE). The Associate Vice Provost (AVP) will fully articulate and carry out the vision for online and continuing and professional education to achieve three goals: enhance student success and Oregon Rising goals including degree completion and career readiness; develop unique innovative and revenuegenerating degree programs; and increase the universitys capacity to support effective teaching and learning using online and continuing and professional education resources. Accessible online learning and continuing and professional education are strategic priorities for the university and the AVP must provide critical leadership to the programs.

The AVP will work closely with the leaders of academic colleges the Graduate School and the Division of Undergraduate Studies to coordinate and assess existing programs. Working closely with the Provost and other academic leaders the AVP will develop and execute a strategic plan for online and continuing and professional education at the UO. The AVP will lead the planning and development of new online degree programs that take advantage of the UOs strengths and respond to the market for such programs and workforce needs especially in Oregon as well as develop new sources of revenue. The AVP will centralize decisionmaking for online and continuing and professional education program investment working closely with leaders in the Office of the Provost academic units and service units across the university.

The AVP will be responsible for coordinating with the Universitys strategic partners to facilitate marketing and enrollment of online and continuing and professional education learners; ensuring best practices for assessment; continuous improvement of online and continuing and professional education; oversight of budgetary personnel and communication matters related to online and continuing and professional education; and maintaining compliance with NWCCU standards and state/federal regulations governing the offering of online and continuing and professional education courses.

Minimum Requirements

Masters degree in education administration business management student affairs or related field.
Five years of progressively responsible experience and demonstrated success in a leadership role related to online and continuing and professional education or instructional technology (for example corporate training and professional development programs).
Experience working in a complex matrixed environment with multiple internal and external audiences.
Experience in entrepreneurial approaches to establish new initiatives with a track record of translating market research into successful programs.
Experience supervising and managing a team.

Professional Competencies

Knowledge of instructional technology online and continuing and professional education pedagogy and emerging trends in online and continuing and professional education and continuing professional education.
Knowledge of project management and the use of metrics to identify resource needs and provide accountability.
Budgetary enrollment planning and forecasting knowledge.
Effective communication and consultation skills.
Knowledge of business development marketing business practices and customer relations.
Understanding of shared governance and collaborative decisionmaking.
Ability to work in a highly collaborative work environment by building internal and external partnerships with faculty staff students and alumni.
Ability to Inspire creative thinking and foster problem solving.
Ability to promote and enhance diversity equity and inclusion and student success in a diverse environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Doctoral or terminal degree.
Experience working in higher education.
Experience teaching in an online environment or working with continuing and professional education.
Experience with assessment accreditation and compliance in higher education.
Expertise in negotiating strategic sponsor partnerships and business agreements that enhance the enterprise academic technologies ecosystem.
