Job Summary:
Property Evidence Technicians are responsible for receiving storing releasing and disposing of property obtained by the Greeley Police Department. The Technician maintains security and chain of custody on all items submitted whether they are evidence found property or submitted for safekeeping. Responsible for maintaining both written and computer documentation of all property transactions. Property Evidence Technicians work and interact with numerous Law Enforcement agencies attorneys citizens and other business partners.
Experience Knowledge Skills:
Minimum Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver license.
OR
- Any combination of related education experience certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.

Essential Functions:
- Responsible for logging in the evidence and property received and enforcing department policy about the proper packaging of all items.
- Coordinates with department personnel to correct any inaccurate or incomplete submissions.
- Ensure the laws of evidence General Orders and Standard Operating Procedures regarding the handling of evidence and property are followed.
- Respond appropriately to inquiries regarding items held by the department; including authorization verification to release evidence to appropriate persons.
- Assist officers investigators and employees in obtaining evidence from storage to view take to court release to owner or for other purposes.
- Assist citizens by phone email or in person.
- Release property to their rightful owner.
- Dispose of property including hazardous property or materials in accordance with policies procedures and retention schedules. May require participation on the destruction team and operation of a city vehicle.
- Transfer evidence to and from the Regional Lab.
- Research case information in preparation for release auction or disposal of property.
- Copy and transfer digital media files for the District Attorney Investigators and the public while ensuring chain of custody and integrity.
- Conduct and assist with evidence viewings with attorneys and their representatives.
- Input data track and review evidence and property records and research case disposition for future disposal.
- Manage and handle high liability items such as firearms money jewelry and biohazard materials such as blood and other bodily fluids.
- Testify in court cases relevant to the chain of custody of evidence and department policies.
- May prepare routine reports or correspondence.
- Clean areas exposed to biohazard materials using the proper protective gear and equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Work is primarily performed indoors in a warehouse environment with concrete floors.
- Occasional exposure to unpleasant images documents or other items which could be considered disturbing..
Physical Requirements
- Frequent walking standing and sitting.
- Vision must be sufficient to read a variety of material and complete paperwork distinguish color and computer screen.
- Heavy lifting with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to carry pull push reach climb crawl bend stoop twist kneel and squat.
- Exposure to a wide range of chemicals solvents and other solutions including some noxious items.
- Some work will be outdoors in various weather conditions and temperatures.
- Exposure to biohazard materials.
Travel
- Approximately 10 flexible local travel required..
