Job Description

Position overview:

Albertsons Library at Boise State University invites applications for a Discovery Librarian a 12month tenure track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor that is forwardthinking and techsavvy and plays a central role in enhancing access to the Librarys collections. We seek a candidate who can bridge traditional cataloging practices with advanced AIdriven tools to create intuitive dynamic and inclusive systems for organizing and discovering information.

The Discovery Librarian will:
  • Lead metadata creation cleanup and enhancement including the integration of AI tools.

  • Collaborate on initiatives using linked data APIs and interoperability protocols to optimize collection discovery.

  • Maintain expertise in cataloging standards such as RDA and authority control. Collaborates and develops local cataloging and metadata policies.

  • Combine human oversight with machine learning to ensure highquality consistent metadata that supports discovery and accessibility.

  • Work closely with subject librarians IT professionals and researchers to align metadata strategy with user needs and institutional priorities.

This position offers the opportunity to shape how users access knowledge in a dynamic evolving academic environment. The Discovery Librarian will lead the resource description and cataloging section which includes two professional cataloging specialists providing training and guidance to support professional development. This position includes librarianship scholarship and service to the library university and the profession based on negotiated workload.

Albertsons Library provides highquality relevant information and services to Boise State students faculty staff and the community. Conveniently located in the center of campus we serve as a vibrant hub where rich relationships and creative ideas flourish. The Library offers access to electronic and physical collections technology creative making spaces archival materials and university history and both quiet and collaborative study spaces. Skilled staff and librarians provide instruction and research assistance in person virtually and in group settings. We support teaching learning and research at Boise State University by facilitating the use of knowledge information and services.

The Acquisitions and Collections unit manages the Librarys print and electronic resources and includes four interconnected teams:

  • Ordering and interlibrary loan

  • Receiving and collections

  • Serials and continuing resources

  • Resource description and cataloging (where this role sits)

Minimum qualifications:
  • Masters degree from an ALAaccredited program (or equivalent graduate degree from a nonU.S. institution subject to review)

  • Experience with metadata standards or frameworks

Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience with AI tools for metadata generation and cleanup

  • Proficiency with cataloging and metadata standards (e.g. RDA MARC 21 AACR2 BIBFRAME Dublin Core LC classification LCSH OCLC) or similar standards

  • Experience contributing name authority records through NACO or submitting proposals through SACO

  • Knowledge or experience applying linked data principles APIs and interoperability protocols in support of discovery and metadata transformation

  • Supervisory or team leadership experience

  • Strong collaboration skills and a usercentered approach to metadata and discovery

Salary and Benefits:

Salary begins at $60000 and is commensurate with experience 12month contract.
