Job Description

Student Worker Department Coordinator

Number of Openings: 1

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with the STF Coordinator to organize and promote environmentallyfocused projects while determining whether the projects scope falls within the DoES (Department Manager) or at the University atlarge (STF Coordinator).
  • Supervise plan prioritize and evaluate the work of DoES student employees.
  • Correspond with the DoES Student Board with the expectation that they organize six oncampus student engagement events or activities annually.
  • Assist faculty members in various tasks such as sending emails creating advertisements reviewing faculty hiring materials cleaning offices etc.
  • Expand and maintain the Ohio Wesleyan University Environment & Sustainability LinkedIn Group.
  • Generate a department newsletter per semester to attract prospective students communicate with current students and share with alumni.
  • Working with STEM Career Catalyst to communicate job and internship opportunities.
  • Manage and modernize the Environmental Welcome Center a designated space for both student employees and prospective environmental students to complete academic and professional work.
  • Help manage departmental environmental projects (e.g. battery recycling composting etc..

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions.
  • Major in Environmental Science Environmental Studies and/or Geography.
  • Be an upperclassman (junior or senior student).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including ability to effectively communicate with on and offcampus organizations.
  • Organizational skills

August Begin working on the Fall newsletter; meet with fulltime faculty STEM Career Catalyst STF Coordinator DoES Student Board and sister universities to discuss your role and expectations; update the DoES Student Board document and place it in the DoES hallway.

September Release newsletter to students faculty and alumni; access environmental student projects/green initiatives (e.g. composting battery recycling etc. and configure who will be responsible for their continuation.

October Create Spring 2025 course guide; modernize the Environmental Welcome Center (e.g. signage better lighting snacks/refreshments decorations etc..

November Assist in coordinating the hiring of students for the Spring semester (e.g. tutors graders coordinators etc..

December TBD

January Begin working on the Spring newsletter.

February Release newsletter to students faculty and alumni.

March Begin Green Week and May Move Out planning. Begin seeking out student workers for following school year.

April Assist in coordinating the hiring of students for the Fall semester (e.g. tutors graders coordinators etc.. May Move Out coordination Green Week events.

May TBD
