Job Summary
The ViceChancellor is the Chief Executive and Academic Officer of the University responsible for providing visionary strategic and transformational leadership to the institution. The role entails overseeing the academic administrative and financial operations of the University while promoting innovation excellence in research and teaching and fostering a productive and harmonious relationship among staff students and the host community.
As the ExOfficio Chairman of the Senate and Congregation and a Member of the University Governing Council the Vice Chancellor will work closely with stakeholders to uphold the mission vision and core values of the University ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and promoting global standards of higher education.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overall academic and administrative leadership ensuring the Universitys effective operation and global competitiveness.
- Serve as ExOfficio Chairman of Senate and Congregation guiding academic policies standards and decisionmaking processes.
- Be a principal advisor to the University Governing Council on matters concerning the University s projects finance development and administration.
- Promote academic excellence research innovation and sustainable curriculum development across faculties and departments.
- Foster a culture of meritocracy transparency and accountability in staff appointments promotions and student engagement.
- Drive the University s strategic development goals ensuring alignment with national and international education benchmarks.
- Attract external partnerships research funding grants and other resources through entrepreneurial initiatives.
- Build and maintain mutually beneficial relationships between the University and host communities government agencies alumni and industry stakeholders.
- Ensure a conducive environment for teaching learning and research and resolve conflicts amicably between staff students and management.
- Oversee the physical and digital infrastructure development including implementation of modern Information and Communication Technology (ICT) solutions to enhance learning and administration.
- Uphold and model the highest standards of personal and institutional integrity.
- Maintain physical and mental fitness to effectively manage the dynamic pressures of the office.
Requirements
Requirements & Qualifications
- Must possess a Doctorate Degree (Ph.D. from a recognized university and be an acclaimed scholar and Professor of high repute with substantial national and international publications.
- A minimum of 15 years of postPh.D. academic or cognate experience at least 10 years of which must be as a Professor in a recognized institution.
- Academic specialization must be relevant to the academic mandate and programmes of the University.
- Proven track record in university leadership research resource mobilization and institutional development.
- Demonstrated ability to manage human and material resources efficiently and lead with objectivity empathy and foresight.
- Must be a person of integrity good judgment and sound character with a strong commitment to upholding university autonomy and academic freedom.
- Must demonstrate entrepreneurial acumen resource mobilization skills and strategic vision for the Universitys future.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire and manage both internal and external stakeholders.
- Must be ICTsavvy and wellinformed about the role of digital technology in higher education.
- Must submit a certificate of medical fitness issued by a recognized public health institution.
