ALTEN UK is looking for a Senior Embedded Software Developer to join our engineering team supporting a longterm defence programme involving highprecision optical systems. You will play a key role in the development of embedded software for nextgeneration submarine technology. This role is suited to engineers who thrive on handson technical work realtime system challenges and building software that operates in missioncritical environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and integrate embedded realtime software using C targeting PICbased microcontrollers.
- Perform handson coding debugging and lowlevel hardware interaction to support system integration activities.
- Ensure all software components align with projectspecific and defence industry safety standards.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including systems and hardware engineers to deliver reliable solutions.
- Work with DOORS to manage and trace requirements throughout the full software lifecycle.
- Contribute to design reviews test plans and continuous improvement of development processes.
Qualifications :
Skills & Experience Required:
- 5 years experience in embedded software development using C in realtime systems.
- Strong background in microcontroller integration particularly PICbased architectures.
- Experience working to safetycritical software standards such as DO178C or MISRA.
- Proficient in software development lifecycle activities including design integration and testing.
- Practical use of DOORS or equivalent requirements management tools.
- A pragmatic and proactive attitude with excellent problemsolving skills.
Desirable Skills:
- Exposure to optomechanical systems or embedded systems within the defence or aerospace domains.
- Understanding of lowlevel drivers firmware and hardware/software interfacing.
- Familiarity with configuration management and debugging tools in embedded environments.
Qualifications & Security:
- Bachelors degree in Software Engineering Electronics Computer Science or a related discipline.
- Military/Armed Forces background in a technical role will also be highly regarded.
- Must be a sole UK national and eligible for SC Clearance minimum 5 years UK residency required.
