Installation removals maintenance andrepairs of mobile & portable radios base stations communication consolesremote control units along with other technologies such as incar camerasspeed control devices incar computers voice logging recorders body worncameras and interoperability communication systems. Performing basic radioprograming updates with firmware and CPS along with preventive maintenance testing.
Responsible to lead & guide subordinatesin performance and routine maintenance of specialized technical equipment suchas speed control systems radio video and communication subsystem repairs.
Leads and overseesshop and tower site shelter cleanliness (Ex. dusting/mopping) workloadschedules recording and filing of all agency records such as capitalequipment maintenance records shop requisitions and helpdesk tickets for eachshop within the area of responsibility.Communicateseffectively with individuals listed under Part II Section of Area Supervisor in their absence.
Provides maintenance & repairs tocommunication equipment at remote tower sites including equipment used forradio communications fiber optics T1 audio transport and others.
Maintains accurate capital inventory andmaintenance records on all equipment. Requests and maintains a sufficientnumber of repair supplies to perform repair & maintenance for operations ofthe assigned ESD service regions(s).
Perform other duties as assigned bysupervisors.
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Seven years experience in the repair of electronic communications equipment six years must have included the repair of twoway FM radios.
Notes:
1. Candidatesmay substitutethe successful completion of a one year program of study in radio electronics at a recognized training school trade school or college for up to one year of the required general experience.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a noncommissioned officer in Electronics Technician (Communications) classifications or Signal Corps Aerospace Maintenance or Data/ Communications Maintenance specialty codes in the aviation communications field of work on a yearforyear basis for the required experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Five years of experience (maintenanceand installation) with voice audio transport circuits (DSO) dealing withmicrowave fiber optics and T1 backhaul.
2. Experience with P25 LandMobile Radio.
3. Experience performingmaintenance on P25 Communication Console System.
4. Experience performingrepairs/maintenance on any radar and/or laser emitting equipment.
1. Applicants for this classification may be requiredto possess either a Federal Communications Commission General Radiotelephone Operator license a FCCShip Radar Endorsement a National Association of Business and Educational Radio certificate or an Associated Public Safety Communications Officer Incorporated certificate. If required the applicant must list their license orcertificate number and expiration date on the application.
2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be requiredto possess a motor vehicle operators license valid in the State ofMaryland.
In accordance withSection 2204(b)6 of the Public Safety Article candidates for positions inthis position will be subject to an initial drug screening and a completecriminal background investigation beforepermanent appointment can be made. A criminal conviction may be grounds forrejection of the candidate.
