  • This is an INTERNAL recruitment open to current permanent WA State Dept of Corrections employees only.

Our agency is looking to INTERNALLY fill a fulltime permanent Community Corrections Supervisor (CCS) WMS02 vacancy within the Community Corrections Division (CCD). This position works for the Puyallup Field Officelocated at 405 West Stewart Ave Puyallup WA 98371. Shift hours are 0800 to 1700 MondayFriday.

This position is an integral part of the Community Corrections Divisions management team. You will be responsible for:
  • The overall management of the Field Office.
  • Supervising individuals as it relates to RCWs WACs policy directives and risk.
  • Supervising Community Corrections Officers and other corrections staff.
  • Developing coordinating and supervising various specialized DOC initiatives and programs for staff and supervised individuals (S/Is).

Duties

  • Supervise and manage staff facilities and work performed in assigned units.
  • Implement direct and evaluate statewide programs/policies such as supervised individual (S/I) reentry risk management S/I programs and community involvement.
  • Promote and uphold S/I standards and practices of the agency.
  • Completion of other administrative/managerial tasks.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or foreign equivalent.
  • Five years of experience in the community corrections or related field.
  • Two years of supervisory or lead experience which can be gained concurrently with the required experience.
  • And must possess and maintain a vehicle operators license valid in the state of Washington.
OR
  • Equivalent combination of qualifying education and/or experience totaling nine years.
  • Two years of supervisory or lead experience which can be gained concurrently with the required experience.
  • And must possess and maintain a vehicle operators license valid in the state of Washington.
The successful candidate will also possess the following REQUIRED knowledge skills and abilities:
  • Demonstrated ability to provide positive leadership in times of stress conflict and unforeseen events.
    • Remain calm and rational while handling difficult situations to include volatile threatening or other crisis and emergency situations.
    • Expertly intervene in response to threats.
  • Understanding and working knowledge of supervised individual (S/I) management including behavior management security and safety and S/I programs including preparation of S/Is for success in the community.
  • Experience working with other governmental and/or social service entities in the development or implementation of a program project or other joint venture.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Department of Corrections policies/procedures RCWs WACs and ACA standards.
  • Experience applying the Sentencing Reform Act as it pertains to Community Placement the Offender Accountability Act and Sentencing Alternatives.
  • Experience in the effective application of Human Resource practices to maintain a trained and diverse workforce.

Note for Internal Candidates: Staff who do not qualify for legacy status under the provisions for arming are required to be armed and must be willing and able to possess and use a firearm under federal and state law; maintain firearm qualifications; and successfully complete ongoing training requirements associated with mandatory arming and potential use of force.

If selected for hire you may be required to meet the following SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS and CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • Complete a felony disclosure form prior to employment.
  • Complete and pass the psychological screening (Battery Exam and Psychological Interview/Evaluation).
  • Successfully complete within mandated timeframes employee orientation and all other mandatory annual inservice and other required training.
  • Become familiar and comply with all department policies and procedures and Collective Bargaining Agreements as applicable.
  • Successfully complete the Firearms Academy and Control/Impedance Tactics (CIT) training within prescribed timeframes. This requirement includes:
    • Maintaining eligibility to possess and use a firearm under federal and state laws.
    • Maintaining qualifications per department training standards with departmentissued firearms and with Intermediate Force options (e.g. OC pepper spray or electronic immobilization devices).
    • Maintaining CIT qualifications.
    • Completing all agency requalification training and an annual criminal history clearance to remain armed.
