Position Title: School Bus Driver Trainer
Pay Grade: Bus Driver/Trainer Scale Period of Employment: 9 months

Supervised by and/or Reports to: Director of Transportation
General Responsibilities: Provides classroom and behind the wheel training including school bus regulations and safety procedures; evaluates bus drivers knowledge and skills; maintains required documentation for audit in compliance with State Certification; transporting students.
Essential Duties:

- Conducts classroom and behindthewheel bus driver training.
- Evaluates performance of bus drivers and applicants to ensure that basic skill levels are met and in compliance with state certification requirements.
- Schedules training and testing of bus drivers.
- Provides additional focused training for drivers involved in an accident.
- Transports students safely on an assigned/unassigned route according to a definite time schedule.
- Provides transportation for field trips athletic contests and extracurricular events.
- Provides care and supervision of the students by taking appropriate safety precautions when students are boarding and departing.
- Reviews the signup sheet on the board for additional assignments.
- Checksin with the dispatcher for any changes in normal duties or new student passengers.
- Accepts additional assignments as required.
- Performs state required pretrip inspection in accordance with Manassas City Public Schools and the commercial drivers license (CDL) which includes but is not limited to fuel oil water lights brakes and steering. Reports any problems to the Maintenance Department.
- Maintains a clean bus ensuring a healthy environment for students and maintaining presentable school transportation.
- Checks the bus after every run for students lost items and damage.
- Maintains a safe environment within the bus by enforcing rules of conduct. Reports misconduct to a building administrator and issuing referrals of students.
- Remains abreast of weather conditions and school closings early dismissals or late openings.
- Prepares and completes reports such as a daily maintenance form timesheets route schedules field trip forms mileage records and discipline referrals.
- Adheres to the Manassas City Schools Transportation Handbook.
- Conducts semiannual bus evacuation drills.
- Reports all accidents immediately to the dispatcher.
- Ensures that all students are properly seated before putting the vehicle in motion and remain seated during the entire trip.
- Maintains a good driving record and a CDL as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Operates the vehicle in compliance with all traffic and safety laws and regulations.
- Maintains CPR and First Aid Certifications.
- Returns PreK and kindergarten students to school if a responsible party is not present at the bus stop.
- Reports all moving violations personal or work related including DUIs.
- Maintains confidentiality of students medical diagnosis issues and student information.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requisite Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- General knowledge of the citys layout and ability to read a roadmap.
- Knowledge of the DMVs regulations for training new bus drivers.
- Establish and maintain good working relationship with bus driver trainees.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Ability to detect equipment malfunction.
- Knowledge of and compliance with the State Board of Educations pupil rider safety instruction for emergency evacuation and fire drills.
- Ability to interactive positively with gain respect of and maintain discipline over student passengers to ensure that behavior is controlled.
- Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials the general public coworkers students and parents.
- Serves as role model.
Requisite Education and Experience:
- Must be able to read and write; a high school diploma or equivalent (GED) preferred.
- Classroom Training/PreTrip Inspection Training; Behind the Wheel Training without Children; Behind the Wheel Training with Children; Bloodborne Pathogens Training; Bus Attendant Training (use of equipment); CPR/First Aid Training.
- Must possess a class B Commercial Drivers License in good standing issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Must be certified by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a school bus driver trainer.
- Must possess DMV ThirdParty Tester Agreement.
Physical Requirements:
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see read talk hear handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment such as but not limited to: a personal computer calculator copier and fax machine. Some climbing stooping kneeling crouching reaching standing walking pushing pulling lifting grasping or repetitive motions required.
