Job Description

Primary Purpose:

  • Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual emotional physical and social growth.
  • Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
  • Federally Funded Position

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelors degree from accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements
  • Demonstrate competency in the core academic subject area assigned

Physical Education Teachers: Current automated external defibrillator (AED) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificate

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of core academic subject assigned
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills

Experience:

Student teaching approved internship or related work experience

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Records Reports and Correspondence

  1. Providemath intervention to atrisk students most at risk of failing to attain grade level expectations
  2. Administer diagnosticmath instruments to students most at risk of writing/reading failure
  3. Interpret diagnostic math instruments to determine specific instructional needs of atrisk students
  4. Develop instructional plans to meet the individualized needs of identified atrisk students
  5. Monitormath progress of identified atrisk students
  6. Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process
  7. Assist classroom teachers in analyzingmath assessments and in designing and delivering writing/reading interventions
  8. Participate in collaborative committees to make instructional and placement decision for struggling atrisk students
  9. Provide parent training on how to support childrens literacy and writing mathematics development in the home
  10. Attend ongoing staff development in the areas of writing/reading intervention
  11. Compile maintain and file all physical and computerized reports records and other documents as required
  12. Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical social and emotional development of atrisk students
  13. Manage student behavior and administer discipline according to board policies administrative regulations and IEPs.
  14. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect atrisk students equipment materials andfacilities
  15. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues students parents and community members.
  16. Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly
  17. Demonstrate behavior that is professional ethical and responsible
  18. Keep informed of and comply with state district and school regulations and policies for teachers
  19. Perform duties as required by Federal Guidelines.
  20. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required
  21. Articulate the districts mission and goals in areas of assigned responsibilities to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission
  22. Demonstrate the use of appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement
  23. Other duties as assigned.

Tools/Equipment Used:Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals

Posture:Standing for long periods of time. Frequent stooping bending pulling and pushing.

Motion:Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching

Lifting:Occasional light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds)

Environment:May work prolonged or irregular hours; occasional districtwide travel

Mental Demands:Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
