Job Description

ABOUT WILLIAMS LAKE FIRST NATION (WLFN)

The Williams Lake First Nation (WLFN) or the Texelcemc (people of WLFN) have belonged to the Secwepemc (or Shuswap) Nation for over 6500 years. Today the WLFN community includes a growing population of over 800 registered members who live on reserve in Sugar Cane in nearby Williams Lake BC and across the globe.

POSITION

Reports to the Social Development Manager.

Employment Type

Full time 35 hours per week.

Probation Period

3 months from the date of hire.

Education Required

Certificate or Diploma in Human Services or related field. Preference may be given to Bachelor level education.

Experience Required

  • Proven experience supporting individuals with complex needs in harm reduction conflict resolution etc.
  • Experience working with Indigenous families and Communities.
  • Experience providing family support youth support social work or related field.
  • Trauma informed practice training Crisis Intervention training Suicide Prevention training or related certification(s).
  • Related education or training in mental illness/addictions/special needs and related issues.
  • Knowledge of current social issues related to homelessness mental illness and substance use are essential.
  • A combination of experience and education will be considered.

Overtime Status

(nonexempt)

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Administrative:

  • Conduct meetings with clients in a professional and supportive manner.
  • Provide regular follow up to clients team members community partners etc.
  • Provide followup postcrisis support including referring clients to appropriate agencies.
  • Promote services provided by the program and/or organization and provide information / referrals to other community service providers resources and professionals as required.
  • Liaise with and/or promote the interests of clients with other community service providers professionals and school personnel as required.
  • Provide information on communitybased program schedules and events.
  • Maintain comprehensive case notes for daily client interaction.
  • Participate in afterhours community support rotation 1 week per month 8:00 am 8:00 pm)
  • Provide culturally competent practices and have an understanding of the impacts of colonization for Indigenous communities families and individuals.

Program Management:

  • Works closely with communitybased programs on family/client needs.
  • Maintain relevant records and statistics and provide reports to Social Development Manager.
  • Provide education referrals and mentorship to clients on identified issues.
  • Supports the mission vision and values of Williams Lake First Nation.
  • Contributes to the WLFNs ongoing success by accomplishing other duties as required or assigned.
  • Maintains WLFNs policy of Confidentiality Code of Conduct and other policies and procedures.
  • Maintain open communications with the WLFN team.
