Job Description
Class Code: 7263
CLASS TITLE: School Nurse
REPORTS TO: Principal
BASIC FUNCTION: Administer basic first aid and screen ill or injured students in accordance with State laws and District regulations; assist with health testing programs; prepare and maintain a
variety of records files and reports.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Perform basic first aid procedures and screen ill or injured students according to established procedures; utilize a variety of health products and supplies in caring for injuries and health needs.
Administer first aid in emergency situations and notify administrator parents or paramedics as necessary.
Administer medicines to students.
Schedule students for and assist with vision hearing scoliosis and dental screenings; schedule followup appointments if further testing is required.
Prepare and maintain a variety of health records.
Maintain the health office in a clean orderly and safe condition.
Attend meetings as required.
Operate office equipment.
Perform related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of:
Basic First Aid and ageappropriate CPR techniques.
Health and safety regulations.
Record keeping techniques.
Correct English usage grammar spelling punctuation and vocabulary.
Oral and written communications skills.
Interpersonal skills using tact patience and courtesy.
Ability to:
Administer first aid to ill or injured students.
Administer medicines and record properly.
Maintain files records and reports.
Work cooperatively with others.
Meet schedules and time lines.
Plan and organize work.
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to graduation as a Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse and one year comprehensive nursing experience.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate issued by an authorized agency. Valid Kentucky Drivers License and valid Kentucky Nursing License.
