About the Unit

6 South is a 50bed Mother/Baby care unit. Care is provided to postpartum mothers and their newborn infants. They also provide education to new families to facilitate their transition to a family unit.

Scope of work

The Lactation Consultant functions as a member of the health care team by providing patient and family education acting as a consultant and resource for the medical and nursing staff and by serving as a community resource for breast feeding related care throughout the organization not just in Maternal Child Health. The Lactation Consultant uses specific age and culturerelated physical intellectual psychosocial and developmental attributes in the assessment planning implementation and evaluation of care for breast feeding patients.

Qualifications

  • Required Associates Degree in nursing
  • Preferred Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • 2 years of relevant experience. 2 years of recent maternal child experience required
  • Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Michigan required
  • CLC required at time of hire. CRTBoard Cert Lactation Consultant (BCIBCLC) IBCLCE International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners required within 2 years
  • This position Prefers IBCLC upon hire with previous Lactation Consultant experience
  • AHA ARC or Canadian Heart and Stroke Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire
