Job Description

Van Buren Intermediate School District

Assistant Principal Bert Goens Learning Center

Title: Assistant Principal for the VBISD Bert Goens Learning Center

Job Goal(s): The primary goals of the BGLC Assistant Principal are to: a) hire train and supervise program and support staff b) ensure the provision and high quality special education programming to students and c) colead an effective and efficient building.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Masters degree required

Certification: Endorsement of other professional certification for the provision of special education special education approval for Supervisor/Director with adequate continuing education credits toward maintaining such certifications.

Work Experience:

Minimum of five years of experience in a special education field or other position(s) of leadership significantly related to the responsibilities described in this job description

Skills:

  • Ability to implement and train individuals in best practices related to special education
  • Possess expertise with data collection and analysis to inform decision making
  • Expertise and experience following county federal and state rules and regulations for special education
  • Ability to provide leadership on implementing systematic changes to improve the overalldelivery of special education programming and services
  • Ability to communicate effectively with superintendents principals teachers parents and other agencies
  • Expertise in instructional design to inform and promote best practices in curriculumassessment and instruction
  • Assist in the leadership of the school improvement process
  • Evaluate staff as assigned by the Principal
  • Promote strong family involvement
  • Expertise in developing and training effective IEPs and leading IEPrelated meetings
  • Ability to assist the Principal in overseeing facility management
  • Ability to collaborate with the Transportation Department

  • Complete assigned responsibilities within agreed upon timelines.

  • Perform additional tasks responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education and the Superintendent.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Valid Drivers License required.
  • Be able to sit for long periods of time using a computer
  • Be able to attend meetings across the county and across the state
