Job Description

Durango School District 9R is accepting applications for a Licensed Teacher to join the team at The HUB Therapeutic Program. Position begins July 28 2025.

SUMMARY: This position will lead collaborating with key stakeholders the development and delivery of a comprehensive curriculum and instructional model for The Hub Therapeutic Program acting as instructional and academic coordinator for students accepted and engaged primarily in the middle school program. Additionally this position will support the coordination of academic offerings for expelled students. Candidates will be interested and passionate about working with highrisk students and will be skilled in collaborative development of innovative learning environments and specialized instruction and assessment aligned with the Durango School District 9R strategic plan. This position will be responsible for organizing and implementing personalized academic learning plans collaborating with the multiagency team and serving the holistic needs of identified students.

10 Student Assessment and Placement:

  • Participate in student identification and placement process by engaging in assessment evaluation and team meetings as appropriate.
  • Provide feedback regarding appropriate placement recommendations.
  • Confer with other professionals regarding any educational needs of the therapeutic school student.
  • Conduct observations in the childs current environment as needed or as appropriate.

15 Planning:

  • Collaboratively design student personalized learning plans so that it is consistent with the total educational philosophy of the district.
  • Continue professional growth through educational meetings visiting related facilities attending conferences and workshops reading professional literature and exchanging ideas among the district staff.
  • Work in coordination with district and community stakeholders in planning and developing the program.
  • Work in collaboration with program staff and community partners within the program.
  • Assist with the design and implementation of the parent involvement component for each individual student within the program.
  • Coordinate with relevant settings outside the classroom as appropriate.
  • Support and integrate paraprofessionals as assigned.

40 Programming:

  • Prepare implement and evaluate a personalized learning plan for each student based on individual assessed needs in accordance with district procedures.
  • Monitor and update the educational program based on student and family needs in collaboration with program staff and community partners.
  • Use appropriate assessment instruments pertinent to instructional areas.
  • Prepare lesson plans for students.
  • Create appropriate schedules for students involving school personnel as required.
  • Provide developmentally appropriate curriculum designed to meet the educational social and emotional needs of the students.
  • Coordinate with relevant settings outside the classroom as appropriate.
  • Provide a classroom environment that promotes the program philosophy of the therapeutic day school focused on the educational social and emotional needs of the students.
  • Engage in the development and implementation of mental health treatment plans in coordination with the Student Support Team.
  • Participate in ongoing assessments and maintain records and behavioral observations to assist in effective student transition plans.
  • Confer with and coach other professionals to support and implement effective student transition plans.

15 Community Relations:

  • Collaborate with program staff and community partners to coordinate efficient therapeutic school services within the program.
  • Develop and deliver professional growth and training programs to inform home school staff of the goals and objectives of student personalized learning plans and ways of replicating and implementing practices in the home school setting.
  • Confer with home school teachers and staff throughout transition process as requested.
  • Collaborate with the Student Support Team on an ongoing basis.
  • Assist in providing information to community groups and parents concerning therapeutic school programs as requested.

15 Reporting:

  • Ensure that each student in the program has the necessary body of evidence and evaluation records in student case files.
  • Complete progress reports on each student in the program based upon his/her personalized learning plan.
  • Supply progress reports to school staff connected service providers and parents/guardians of students.
  • Communicate with parents and families on a regular ongoing bases and document all communication..
  • Complete appropriate reports for local state federal and educational agencies.
  • Gather maintain and share information about parent training agency networking and community resources.
  • Assist with case management and team problemsolving in collaboration with other appropriate school staff and community partners on a regular basis

5 Other duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Assure the safety and welfare of students including necessary actions to insure that students are supervised at all times.
  • Demonstrate faithfulness and promptness in attendance at work.
  • Submit required reports promptly at the times specified.
  • Demonstrate care of and protection of School District property
  • Report suspected child abuse or neglect as required by law.
  • Use the Districts internet and Email system as specified in Policy.
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Principal Superintendent or their designees.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

Minimum: Bachelors degree of related subject from accredited university. Masters degree and special education and/or counseling experience preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Experience with and/or the desire to work with youth who have disengaged with learning and are needing to reengage.

CERTIFICATES LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS: Colorado Teaching License required. Colorado Teaching License for the levels and subject areas teaching. Meet CDE and ESSA requirements for In Field. May be required to complete CPI training depending on assignment.

TECHNICAL SKILLS KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:

  • Excellent interpersonal relations and oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective understanding of the IEP writing process including standards alignment of the IEP
  • Ability to develop and implement appropriate progress monitoring tools to assess student progress toward goals.
  • Strong decision making analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with students with diverse needs at various levels.
  • Ability to develop and implement accommodations and modifications that facilitate student mastery of the Colorado Academic Standards.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
  • Ability to promote and follow Board and District policies Superintendent policies and building/department procedures.
  • Ability to communicate interact and work effectively and cooperatively in a team setting
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace follow safety rules practice safe work habits utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.

  • Microcomputers and general office equipment.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS & DIRECTION/GUIDANCE:

Reports to: The Hub Program Director

May assist in supervising and evaluating paraprofessionals Responsible for supervising the behavior and wellbeing of students in the classroom getting on and off the bus at recess lunch and to and from classes.

BUDGET AND/OR RESOURCE RESPONSIBILITY: Assist with planning and monitoring the building budget.
