Department Summary

Finance and Administration is a vibrant and varied portfolio serving all aspects of campus life. Our employees perform a wide range of functions including offering essential financial tools and support to the universitys many departments providing key resources to employees and keeping campus safe clean accessible and beautiful.

Established in 2012 the Transportation Services Department is an auxiliary unit within Finance and Administration whose goal is to provide customeroriented sustainable transportation and parking programs and services to students employees and visitors to the University of Oregon. Transportation Services covers its expenses and operations through revenue generation largely through permit sales meter revenue events and citations. The units annual budget is approximately $2 million. Transportation Services maintains more than 3800 parking spaces on or adjacent to campus in more than 60 lots and two multilevel parking garages.

Transportation Services facilitates university travel by managing a motor pool that provides reliable wellmaintained vehicles for universityrelated travel. Motor pool services support convenient costeffective transportation to meet diverse needs and is managed with a focus on safety efficiency environmental sustainability and fiscal responsibility.

Position Summary

The Automotive Mechanic 2 for the University of Oregon Motor Pool is responsible for the maintenance basic to complex repair and inspection of a fleet of universityowned Motor Pool vehicles including cars SUVs minivans 12passenger vans and trucks. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring the safe efficient and reliable operation of all motor pool vehicles supporting the transportation needs of university departments faculty staff and students. The Mechanic will need a wide breadth of mechanical skills to be successful in this role. They will diagnose mechanical issues perform preventive maintenance conduct safety checks and address repairs ranging from routine services to more complex mechanical problems.

Reporting directly to the Motor Pool Manager the Automotive Mechanic works both independently and as a member of a collaborative team frequently taking ownership of tasks and managing them through completion. Decisions are often made on the best methods and materials needed to perform specific repairs or maintenance tasks which may also involve setting priorities assessing customer needs and responding to those needs in a timely and effective manner. The Automotive Mechanic uses Federal and State emission laws established guidelines various vehicle repair manuals and standard trade and safety practices in performing the duties of the job.

In addition to technical skills this position requires strong organizational abilities to manage work orders document services performed and maintain accurate records in alignment with State and University protocols. The Automotive Mechanic collaborates closely with other motor pool staff the Motor Pool Manager and UO Fleet Services to ensure that all vehicles meet high standards of quality safety and regulatory compliance. This role also contributes to inventory management for parts tools and supplies and upholds best practices in safety and hazardous material handling.

As a representative of the Motor Pool team the Automotive Mechanic may occasionally provide guidance or instruction on vehicle use and safety to drivers serving as a resource for the university community and supporting campus mobility.
It is an essential requirement of this position to qualify for and maintain UO drivers certification eligibility which includes maintaining an Oregon drivers license throughout employment in this position. This unit may provide essential services during times of emergencies and inclement weather. This position may be required to fulfill essential services and functions during these times.
