Staff Software Engineer

Job Description

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Austin TX three times per week at minimum.

The Role

The Vehicle Data Engineering team is seeking a skilled Staff Software Engineer to take on a key role in the development of innovative data storage and retrieval systems for vehicle data. The ideal candidate will possess a robust background in processing large volumes of data at high speeds. In this role you will be responsible for designing developing and maintaining critical systems and APIs that empower GM businesses to operate efficiently and effectively. What Youll Do

• Design and implement an Operational Data Store (ODS) architecture to support the management and accessibility of vehicle specifications and state data.
• Develop and maintain APIs to enable data access and integration with various applications and services.
• Create and optimize ETL processes to extract transform and load data from multiple sources into the ODS.
• Collaborate with crossfunctional teams to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications for ODS and API development.
• Ensure data integrity security and performance optimization of ODS and APIs.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior developers and team members.
• Stay current with industry trends and best practices in data management ODS technologies and API development.

Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

• Bachelors in Software Engineering Computer Science Information Technology or a related field or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 10 years experience designing developing and supporting enterprise applications.
• Minimum 5 years experience as a development lead or solution architect.
• Possess broad software project delivery experience in leading technical efforts developing applications using a variety of tools languages frameworks and technologies.
• Knowledge of database modeling and data structure principles techniques and best practices in both relational and nonrelational DB.
• Expertise leveraging Object Oriented Programming methodologies and design patterns including domaindriven design microservices cloud native service mesh and cloud design patterns.
• 5 years experience with Data/Bigdata services including Kafka Spark Databricks and Pulsar.
• 5 years experience with Application development frameworks such as Java SpringBoot.
• Expertise in endtoend applications hosted in Kubernetes with a focus on scalability high availability and fault tolerance.
• Proven cloud experience and strong familiarity with at least one cloud platform (Microsoft Azure preferred AWS GCP).
• Familiarity with observability using the OpenTelemetry (OTel) framework.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure deployment using Terraform.
• Good understanding and experience with CI/CD practices.
• Keeps abreast with latest advances in software development technologies by attending conference reading publications and contributing to opensource community.

What Can Give You a Competitive Advantage (Preferred Qualifications)

• Masters Degree or Ph.D.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure technologies AKS Cosmos DB Event Hubs ADX Azure Databricks.
• Experience with designing and implementing cell based architectures
