JOB SUMMARY:
The SAIL SupportAdvocacy forIndependence inLife) program is a specialized class that provides services to students out of high school 1821 years old) whose Individual Education Plan (IEP) demonstrates a need for significant career and post high school support as well as communication socialization and life skills development. Independence and skill building are achieved with intense adult support through individualized and group instruction and strategies such as:
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge Skills Abilities: Knowledge of: special education activities including working with children with various disabilities; program design supervision and staff training. Skilled in: teaching and supervising 1821 year olds. Ability to: be involved in staff development opportunities at the building and district level. Able to establish and maintain positive working relations with staff students and parents. Ability to work collaboratively with others and to work with culturally diverse families and communities and/or have otherwise demonstrated a commitment to equity and strengthening engagement and skill in communicating with a diverse community.
Education: Completion of a Bachelors degree in Special Education.
Certification Required: Current Oregon Teaching license with Special Ed Handicapped Learner and ORELA or ECE/ELE endorsements.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The SAIL teacher works with individuals and small groups of students to provide the following model of services:
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Language Skills: Ability to read English and comprehend complex technical language. Ability to write memoranda correspondence lessons plans reports and student achievement summaries in English. Ability to effectively present information in onetoone and small group situations.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations with a high degree of accuracy.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed but basic written or oral instructions in English. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to work collaboratively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers supervisor(s) staff students parents and community.
Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to walk and may be continuously required to stand. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop kneel crouch or crawl. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Works in a school environment. Able to use a telephone operate a computer and use other office equipment. Able to drive to other program sites and meetings.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and work year in accordance with negotiated agreement between licensed teachers and the district.
CLASSIFICATION/LOCATION:Licensed Probationary FullTime Position.
CALENDAR/BENEFITS:
8 hours per day; Contract days and start date TBD based on upcoming licensed contract negotiations ofcontract.
