Position Title: 0.25 FTE LongTerm Substitute Vocal Coach (LHS)
Reports to: Department Head/Principal
Terms of Employment: To cover a leave of absence approximately dates: Immediately through May 1 2025.
$150 per diem nonbenefits eligible position.
Position Responsibilities:
Lexington High School seeks an energetic and collaborative 0.25 FTE LongTerm Substitute vocal coach to develop and implement fullclass and sectionspecific group voice lessons which support the work of the choral program at the high school. Background in choral conducting and/or music education and/or vocal pedagogy and serviceable piano skills are required. The vocal coach will develop a vocal pedagogy curriculum offered during choral classes focusing on vocal technique vocal health concepts foreign language diction (application of the International Phonetic Alphabet) etc. The vocal coach will select age and level appropriate voice class repertoire (art song lieder etc. to be presented in concert which will complement the programmed choral repertoire. In addition to work on voice class repertoire the vocal coach will assist students in achieving technical mastery of challenging sections encountered in the choral repertoire. The high school vocal coach will also assist with warmups and voice building in rehearsal and will support student preparation for district and AllState choral auditions.
Additionally the candidate will:
- Plan a program of study that as much as possible meets the individual needs interests and abilities of the students.
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals establish clear objectives for all lessons units and projects to communicate these objectives to students.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
- Strive to implement by instruction and action the districts philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
- Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
- Maintain accurate complete and correct records as required by law district policy and administrative regulation.
- Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct and for the classroom develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
- Make provision for being available to students and parents for educationrelated purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms and as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement if applicable.
- Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
- Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
- Evaluate pupils academic and social growth keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
- Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupils progress and interpret the school program.
- Identify pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health attitude and learning problems.
- Participate in curriculum development programs as required.
- Complete all other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
- A Bachelors of Music degree in Music Education/Vocal Performance/Vocal Pedagogy required.
- A Masters degree and current teacher licensure for Massachusetts preferred.
- This position is a 0.25 FTE position that is structured on a rolling schedule. The vocal coach will create a schedule with the high school choral directors that enables them to work with a variety of the LHS choral ensembles.
- Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and possess a high level of capability with technology.
