Description and Functions
- Open Until FilledGENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Wyoming Department of Corrections contributes to public safety by exercising reasonable safe secure and humane management while actively providing offenders opportunities to become lawabiding citizens.
The Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution (WMCI) is specifically designed to serve as the central intake and assessment center for male inmates not sentenced to death. It serves as a primary education and treatment center for inmates identified as requiring high levels of protective custody and medical mental health dental substance abuse life skills cognitive/behavioral and/or sex offender treatment services.
A Caseworker works with the inmate population to complete classification actions parole summaries progress reports and work release plans assists in cell and unit inspections and responds to inmate correspondence and informal grievances.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.- Classifies patients/students/inmates completes risk management assessment for program and housing placement and makes referrals based on need.
- Delivers evidencebased programs.
- Responsible for individualized case planning monitoring and reporting correspondence contacts and case notes.
- Responsible for casework management duties to include planning and production in all facets of programming and associated documentation.
- Administers risk/needs assessments.
- Works with offenders to develop prosocial behaviors and to prepare inmates for successful reentry into society.
- Prepares organizes schedules and implements cognitivebehavioral programming and individual interventions.
- Monitors inmate compliance with established goals and objectives; updates case plans as needed.
- Facilitates compliance with courtordered recommendations and parole board actions for offenders.
- Facilitates attorneyclient phone calls and assists security in the daytoday operations of the unit.
- Responsible for ensuring a safe and enjoyable workplace including participation in initiatives designed to promote a positive work environment
Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
Preference may be given to those with three 3 or more years of progressive work experience in casework.
KNOWLEDGE:- Knowledge of human behavior motivation and interpersonal behavior.
- Knowledge of the varied techniques of programming/education.
- Knowledge of social work principles and practices.
- Knowledge of interviewing and counseling techniques.
- Knowledge of current social economic and health problems and community resources.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education:Bachelors Degree (typically in Social Services)Experience:02 years of progressive work experience (typically in Casework)OREducation & ExperienceSubstitution:35 years of progressive work experience (typically in Casework)Certificates Licenses Registrations:NoneNecessary Special Requirements
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:- Lifting and grasping up to 20 pounds without assistance on an occasional to regular basis
- Walking on cement floors on an occasional to regular basis
- Walking up and down stairs on an occasional basis
- Typing/Repetitive motion frequently
- Seeing: the visual ability to perform an activity such as analyzing data and figures viewing a computer terminal or extensive reading.
