Hiring for multiple positions. The Division of Student Life at the University of Tennessee Knoxville invites applications for as Staff Psychologist in the Student Counseling Center. Join a multidisciplinary team of clinicians providing high quality shortterm individual and group therapy services at a thriving flagship University.

Start date may be immediately or through September 2025.

This exempt 12month fulltime; nontenure track staff position is part of the Student Counseling Center the universitys primary facility for personal counseling psychotherapy and mental health outreach and consultation services. The mission is to promote the psychological educational and social wellbeing of the students at the University of Tennessee and to help prepare them to be productive members of a global society. Staff Psychologists are key members of a multidisciplinary clinical team of psychologists social workers counselors and therapists providing both clinical services as well as supervision and instruction for the centers diverse training programs.

The primary focus of a Staff Psychologist is providing shortterm individual and group therapy to students enrolled at the University of Tennessee Knoxville. Approximately 65 percent of the workload is direct clinical service via client care or clinical supervision (approximately 25 clinical hours pers week) with the remainder focused on documentation administration meetings teaching training seminars or engaging with the campus community via outreach and consultation services with faculty staff students and families around mental health concerns. Clinical staff in the Center provide training/supervision for masters and doctoral level students in mental health professions and advanced clinical training/supervision for interns in the centers internship and postdoctoral residency in psychology.

The Student Counseling Center staffs typical hours are MondayFriday 8:00am to 5:00pm with occasional opportunities for outreach or campus support on evenings and weekends.



Responsibilities
  • Provide the student population with shortterm individual and group counseling psychoeducation and referrals to campus or community services as appropriate.
  • Complete timely ethical and appropriate clinical documentation.
  • Provide clinical supervision as is appropriate to their level of qualifications to practicum field work intern postdoctoral or professional staff.
  • Attend staff meetings case consultation clinical department or divisional trainings and meetings.
  • Actively participate in departmental committees that support the functions policies and processes of center.
  • Provide community level interventions such as outreach programming and university events designed to promote mental health among students addressing areas such as suicide prevention stress management and life/coping skills.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Doctoral Degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA Accredited Degree Program (Ph.D. or Psy.D.
  • Experience: Licensed as a clinical psychologist health service provider in the State of Tennessee or ability to obtain license and meet all full licensure qualifications before start date. Candidate must show evidence of having passed the Examination for Professional Psychology Practice before start date.
  • Knowledge Skills Abilities: Ability to assess and intervene with students in emotional crisis; Ability to provide individual and group counseling/psychotherapy; Ability to provide clinical supervision of psychology social work or other professional students in training; Ability to provide outreach programming on topics related to college student mental health; Ability to provide consultation concerning college student mental health; Ability to fulfill job functions in a culturally competent manner

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education:Independently licensed as a clinical psychologist health service provider for 2 years or more.
  • Experience: Working with diverse populations including international people of color and LGBTQIA
