Job Description

POSITION #308CLS0824:

Youth Development Staff After School Programs

Up to 35 positions at multiple After School Program Sites

2.53 hours per day Monday Friday (schedules vary by school)

$16.66 per hour/$16.78 for returning staff

DESCRIPTION:The goals of the After School Programsare to raise math and literacy levels improve academic performance strengthen social relationships and provide meaningful opportunities for students in the After School Expanded Learning Programs.

The Youth Development Staff (YDS) will report directly to the Site Coordinator at their designated site. The Site Coordinator coordinates and supervises all programactivities.

Experience or desire to work with elementary or middle school students. Comfortable learning and using behavior management strategies for working with groups of youth. Ability to communicate well with students staff and parents. Comfortable encouraging motivating and assisting students with homework. Bilingual communication skills are highly valued but not required. Experience supporting lowincome students from culturally diverse backgrounds is preferred. Ability to uphold privacy and confidentiality requirements. Build positive relationships with students as an adult role model and mentor. Assist in the development preparation and implementation of enrichment activities and community building. Assist elementary students with homework including academic software programs. Actively work on a team to maintain a safe healthy learning environment. Collaborate with team members to improve program quality and student experience. Support Site Coordinator with record keeping and data collection. Maintain cleanliness and organization of program space. Work with students individually in small groups and lead large group activities. Manage student behaviors in all program areas. Work in a noisy and crowded environment. Work outside in all types of weather. Assist in communication with families including parent phone calls. Attend professional development opportunities including those which may occur outside of typical work hours.

QUALIFICATIONS:High school diploma or current Running Start student. College students or college graduates preferred. Experience or desire to work with elementary and/or middle school students. Comfortable and confident with math concepts (elementary and middle school level). Ability to relate well with students staff and parents. Strong human relations skills. Student management skills. Bilingual preferred. Experience working with lowincome students from culturally diverse backgrounds is preferred.
