Job Summary
Through the AmeriCorps Texas grant program Texas Southmost College TSC will have AmeriCorps members who will 1 increase communication about and access to campus resources and support and 2 increase engagement in campus activities and with academic support services at TSC in Brownsville Texas. At the end of the first program year the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for increasing TSC students who were served by the program falltospring persistence rate to 75 and falltofall persistence rate of 63.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Objective of the Assignment: Serve in the Food Pantry and Community Garden to increase communication about and access to campus resources and support Help students access basic needs through distribution of food at the TSC food pantry and community garden. Organize and manage food distribution events and ensure efficient and equitable distribution of resources. Educate students staff and community members in nutrition healthy eating habits gardening SNAP workshops and communitybased programs/organization that assist those experiencing food insecurity. Aid in food pantry activities ensuring food items are stocked organize and accessible to all students. Assist in coordinating and implementing outreach efforts for student services.o E.g. Welcome Week SNAP workshops campus events conferences webinars etc. to disseminate knowledge of college procedures and policies to students Measures of the Assignment: Number of students who in a minimum of three times per semester work directly with an AmeriCorps member in the Community Garden attend a workshop or other Food Pantry Activity coorganized by an AmeriCorps member or receive provisions from an AmeriCorps member working in the Food Pantry and Persist to end of term or completion of program (shortterm outcome) Register for and attend following term: Winter/Spring from Fall or Summer/Fall from Spring (midterm outcome). Register for and attend the term starting one year from initial point of capture or complete their program (midterm outcome).
