JOB SUMMARY

The Day Care Assistant assists in planning organizing and delivering a program of daily activities for children aged 06 years; assists in supervising and monitoring the children; conveys and receives information; maintains a clean and safe classroom environment for the children; and ensures compliance with established regulations.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

All positions require selected candidates to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check. Additional minimum required qualifications for this position are:

  1. High school or equivalent
  2. Ability to adapt to changing work priorities
  3. Speak read write and present professionally analyze and interpret English written and verbal communications
  4. Ability to operate standard office equipment (e.g. phone copier scanner fax machines etc.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

These are examples of skills and experience that the best qualified candidates may have. Not having one or all of them does not disqualify any candidate from consideration.

  1. Prior experience working with children under 6 years of age
  2. Knowledge of stages of child development and correlating ageappropriate activities
  3. Hold or obtain CPR & First Aid Certificate within two months of hire
  4. Hold or obtain a Food Handler permit within two months of hire

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assist in developing and implementing daily activities to support the program in meeting the needs of the children. Assist in supervising children to provide a safe and positive learning environment
  2. Provide basic care needs (e.g. toileting diapering changing clothes bottle feeding etc.
  3. Assist in delivering assigned ageappropriate program activities and positive reinforcement (e.g. daily activities reading stories art painting singing games painting playground activities etc. to encourage the developmental growth of the students
  4. Promote good habits to improve the quality of childrens outcomes and encourage childrens development (e.g. demonstrating good hygiene techniques communication etc.
  5. As needed roll push pull bend reach stoop and lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 30 pounds regularly
  6. Assist in maintaining a wellmanaged classroom with minimal supervision (e.g. setup cleanup washing clothes equipment mopping wiping down counters etc. to ensure a safe and positive learning environment
  7. Assist with food and snack preparation if certified to meet the needs of the children
  8. Assist in administering first aid and medication if certified as assigned (e.g. ses bruises etc. to meet their immediate health care needs
  9. Perform recordkeeping and clerical functions (e.g. attendance food service records anecdotal records accident reports etc. Report observations and incidents to appropriate instructional and administrative personnel
  10. Communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and building positive working relationships with employees and stakeholders
  11. Participate in meetings workshops and seminars as assigned to convey and gather information required to perform functions
  12. Work under limited supervision utilizing timemanagement and prioritization strategies accurately processing detailed information and meeting deadlines
  13. Work as part of a team in a collaborative environment fostering positive working relationships and a safe and positive learning environment. Support a team environment by collaborating with own and other work units to effectively perform the duties of the position
  14. Adapt to changing work priorities and work with frequent interruptions as required
  15. Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectively
  16. Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit

EMPLOYEE SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: No

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: some lifting carrying pushing and pulling up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 30 pounds regularly some stooping kneeling crouching and crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 30 sitting 30 walking and 40 standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
