Job Description

Pay Grade: E (Exempt Professional Salary System)

Department: Academic Services

Accountable to: EL Coordinator

FLSA Status: Exempt

Special Note: This is a Grant funded position

Creation/Revision Date: April 1 2024

Class Summary: Under general direction incumbent(s) designs and implements services consultation and assistance to school personnel in meeting the complex educational needs of refugee/immigrant students and students entering the district with little or no formal education from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Essential Duties:

  • Designs and oversees intervention services for refugee students.
  • Develops and presents professional development for principals teachers parents and other staff on effective methods of maximize the education process for refugee/students. Conducts training to provide cultural background information for targeted student populations.
  • Support and ensure intervention services are being provided to refugee/newcomer students.
  • Supports teachers with newcomer students. Provides language and cultural background information.
  • Researches and determines effective methods to maximize educational opportunities.
  • Coaches and models for teachers how to implement the curriculum instruction and assessment programs in the classroom and how to design and deliver effective instruction for targeted students using culturally responsive strategies.
  • Coaches and models for teachers how to utilize disaggregated student achievement data to plan and deliver instruction and make datadriven instructional decisions.
  • Supports the screening of new arrival refugee and/or newcomer students to determine language/academic skills.
  • Coaches and conducts demonstration lessons with individual teachers who request or require assistance with instructional strategies classroom management lesson design culturally responsive strategies.
  • Provides feedback to teachers in need of assistance with culturally responsive strategies for instructional practices the use of student data for planning instruction and the management of the classroom and students whether supportive or directive.
  • Participates in professional development activities that are provided by the District and the schools.
  • Prepares presents and facilitates professional development activities and small groups that support the instruction of refugee/newcomer students.
  • After School Academy and Summer Academy responsibilities: budgeting distributing hiring registration communication with families provide culturally responsive curricula and transportation requests. Contract vendors responsive to culturally based activities.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications: To be eligible for this position an applicant must meet the following required qualifications. In addition verification of these required qualifications is necessary.

  • Bachelors degree in education;
  • Three 3 years of experience in education of English learners and/or refugee/newcomer populations;
  • BLE/ESL/SEI endorsement

Preferred Qualifications: It is preferred that applicant possesses the following preferred qualifications; however the following qualifications are not required to be eligible for this position.

  • Masters degree and/or an endorsement in language acquisition

Knowledge and Skills Required: To perform the job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision peripheral vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
