Job Description

The Colchester School District is seeking qualified applicants for the position of part time English Language Learner Teacher. This position is 60 of full time and is for theschool year only. GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The ESL Teacher/Coordinator works collaboratively with classroom teachers guidance staff and specialist teachers to assist nonEnglish speaking or limited English speaking students in developing spoken and written communication :1. Current Vermont Teaching license as a Teacher of English as a Second Language.2. Prior successful teaching experience.3. Excellent interpersonal organizational and problem solving skills.4. Flexibility and understanding in addressing multicultural issues cultural norms and a variety of languages.5. Commitment to the districts mission and Strategic RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Assess the functional literacy levels of all new ESL or nonEnglish speaking students and develop appropriate instructional programs.2. Communicate with classroom teachers guidance staff and/or specialist teachers regarding current ESL student needs and instructional plans.3. Work with students individually or in small groups as appropriate. 4. Conduct activities which promote effective listening speaking reading or writing skills. 5. Assist students in learning content according to their language readiness and developmental levels.6. Challenge students to master both basic and higher order thinking skills.7. Prepare quarterly progress reports on all ESL students; review these with students parents classroom teachers and supervisor.8. Coordinate total district program to serve ESL student needs; access the services of the Rural Educational Center and higher education institutions to bolster program resources.9. Perform other tasks as assigned by building principals and/or your direct candidates shall submit cover letter resume three written letters of recommendation as well as copies of transcripts and current Vermont Teaching license with the proper endorsement(s).
