JOB SUMMARY:
School Psychologists are on the team of schoolbased interventionists meant to help children succeed despite learning emotional or behavioral issues. These highlytrained professionals screen students for disabilities offer counseling and help teachers and families create Independent Education Plans (IEPs). School psychologists may also refer students to other resources such as counselors social workers or psychiatric evaluations. School psychologists are needed preschool through high school. They commonly work with school social workers counselors the principal and teachers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Meets the standards of Competent and Ethical Performance as outlined in Oregon Administrative Rules (OARto. The following are examples of principle duties; however any one position may not cover all duties listed and examples may not cover all duties an employee is expected to perform.
- Screen students for potential psychological issues and make recommendations for treatment plans based on this screening
- Network with teachers and families to create 504 plans and Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) that help ensure success for kids who have disabilities
- Counsel students and parents while pointing them toward further resources when needed
- Collaborate with the special education team to design and implement intervention strategies and programs
- Administer therapy to children with developmental learning or behavioral delays
- Work with atrisk youth who are in need of educational intervention to help them achieve success
- Analyze and treat school children using psychoanalytic and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) techniques
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding student health and academic records
- Conduct psychoeducational evaluations to inform invention supports and/or special education eligibility
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. - Masters degree in school psychology and valid Oregon School Psychologist license or ability to obtain license or
- Licensed as a Clinical Psychologist through the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP or PhD/PsyD). This certification requires the completion of a masters degree passing the National School Psychology Exam and 1200 hours of internship.
- Demonstrated ability to provide child and family centered socialemotional supports
- Ability to assess and teach developmentally relevant social and behavioral skills
- Recent successful experience working in an educational/mental health setting with students who have serious socialemotional challenges
- Ability to learn and apply mental health based strategies with education services in a public school setting
- Ability to compose and produce concise professional documents
- Demonstrated skills working with other professionals such as educators counselors social workers psychologists and psychiatrists as resources for planning and delivery of specially designed programs
- Ability to develop and utilize scheduling and time management techniques in the daily performance of responsibilities
- Ability to acquire and maintain skill in nonaversive behavior crisis prevention and intervention
- Ability to cosupervise two or more educational assistants
- Ability to acquire and maintain a valid first aid and CPR card
- Written and oral communication skills sufficient to perform essential functions
- Physical attributes sufficient to perform essential functions
- Mental attributes sufficient to perform the essential functions including the ambiguity associated with program development
- Ability to establish and maintain rapport with students parents teachers and administrators to provide an effective level of service
- Experience consulting with teachers parents and other school professionals to provide educational services in an inclusive setting preferred
- Effective written and communication skills
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the School Boards policy on evaluation of members of the Sherwood Education Association.
