RESPONSIBLE TO: DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL EDUCATION

JOB GOAL: To assist the Director of Special Education in the development implementation
and evaluation of Special Education programs for students with disabilities
K12.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Previous teaching experience in Special Education
Administrative experience preferred
Masters Degree preferred
Ohio Intervention Specialist License
Ohio Administrative Specialist/Principal License
Demonstrate knowledge of Special Education and Related Services and ability to provide
leadership at the District level
Demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain rapport with parents building administrators
professional colleagues teachers related service personnel and students
Proven ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders and work in a team environment
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education
may find appropriate
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Comply with the requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act federal and
state law and the Board of Education Policies.
2. Monitor staff compliance requirements by the District with all local state and federal laws and
regulations relating to students with disabilities as well as those suspected of having a
disability.
3. Ensure appropriate delivery of special education and related services per student IEPs.
4. Coordinates all requirements for students on Ohios Scholarship programs including but not
limited to evaluation IEP development maintaining compliance in reporting and Autism
Education Plans.
5. Ensure ongoing assessment and reporting of student progress toward the achievement of
students goals and objectives in coordination with principals and staff.
6. Be knowledgeable about student learning objectives and conference with teachers on their use.
7. Assist in the development and implementation of local procedures for finding identifying
evaluating and implementing the provisions of special education.
8. Support the training of special education staff members on federal and state law and district
policies and procedures as well as training in new curricular resources and student support
strategies.
9. Effectively interpret and communicate the vision and mission of the District as it aligns with
the education of students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment.
10. Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively and facilitate conversations with all team
members including advocates mental health providers outside agencies school staff and
parents.
11. Serve as the District Representative in ETR and/or IEP meetings at the direction of the Special
Education director.
12. Assist school psychologists related services professionals and intervention specialists in
recommendations of referral evaluation identification placement and implementation tools
for education in the least restrictive environment.
13. Remain current and knowledgeable regarding research and best practices in special education.
14. Oversee maintenance and confidentiality of student records.
15. Complete all tasks promptly meeting due dates and compliance timelines.
16. Recommend appropriate budget and staffing regarding special education programs.
17. Support the implementation of curricular resources.
18. Hold and attend department meetings and serve as a liaison between the various department
members and the districts Special Education Department.
19. Upon request participate in interviewing prospective teachers and paraprofessionals for the
department.
20. Supervise Related Service providers as needed.
21. Provide ongoing visibility accessibility and feedback in the buildings to support instructional
practices and compliance procedures.
22. Assist the administrative staff in analyzing and strengthening the instructional practices.
23. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.

Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions
Occasional interaction among unruly children/adults
Many situations that require hand motion e.g. computer keyboard typing and writing
Consistent requirements to sit stand walk hear see read and speak reach stretch with hands
and arms crouch kneel and climb and stoop
Consistent requirements to lift carry push and pull various supplies and/or equipment up to a
maximum of 50 pounds
EVALUATION: The performance of these responsibilities will be evaluated annually by the Director
of Special Education.
