Description

Methodist University invites applications for a fulltime tenured or tenuretrack faculty (open rank) in Communication and Media program beginning in August 2025. We seek candidates who demonstrate an affinity for mentoring and teaching students oncampus and online bringing a dynamic studentcentered approach to a broad range of communication courses. Special consideration will be given to candidates with expertise and interest in content creation using Emerging Media Technologies.

Methodist Universitys Communication and Media Studies program offers a comprehensive undergraduate curriculum designed to equip students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills across the various specializations within the discipline including media studies media production human communication and public relations. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to studentcentered teaching and bring experience in both facetoface and online instruction with a strong emphasis on highimpact and innovative pedagogies committed to building student agency. There is opportunity to contribute to building and revising the curriculum with new courses aligning with professional interests as well as student needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach a 4/4 course load of introductory and advanced courses in Communication and Media including those that contribute to the General Education curriculum.
  • Engage in practice and research based teaching of content creation courses such as Audiovisual Production and Advanced Video/Audio Production.
  • Provide handson learning opportunities through partnerships with the Sports Information Content Creation Team the Monarch Marketing Agency and other student organizations.
  • Participate in departmental service including curriculum development and student organization support.
  • Remain current with the latest in media production technologies including video editing software studio equipment and livestreaming tools.

Qualifications

  • Terminal degree (Ph.D. MFA or equivalent) in Communication Media Studies Journalism or a related field preferred; masters degree with at least 5 years of professional experience will be considered. (ABD candidates are eligible to apply)
  • Expertise in media production technologies including video editing software studio equipment and livestreaming tools.
  • Evidence of Teaching experience required.
  • Familiarity with community engagement practices welcomed.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with emerging trends like virtual reality or AIenhanced storytelling disinformation campaigns and the promotion of visual literacy.
  • Interest in Sports Media
  • Supervising the management and operations of a studentrun media lab
  • Ability to integrate classroom learning with realworld experiences through campus initiatives.
