Job Description

Job Goal:To administer and supervise all the activities and personnel within an assigned school and to work to establish an educational environment that motivates faculty and students to develop to their fullest possible potential.

Qualifications:

  1. Valid Alabama teachers certificate.
  2. Masters degree administrative certification from an accredited college/ university and three 3 years of successful teaching experience
  3. Such alternative to the above qualifications as the Board may require.

FLSA Status:Exempt

Reports To:Superintendent or designee

Background Check Required: (Ala. Code 1622A5 Upon offer of employment employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Background checks must not be more than 10 years old.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of the law as it applied to school.
  2. Knowledge of the Instructional Leader Standards.
  3. Knowledge of federal state and local laws policies and procedures.
  4. Ability to assist with instructional techniques.
  5. Ability to weigh options think clearly evaluate and use good judgment.
  6. Ability to organize effectively.
  7. Effective written and oral communication skills.
  8. Physical mobility dexterity strength and visual acuity to meet the demands of the position.
  9. Effective leadership skills in group settings.
  10. Ability to maintain and set standards for schoolwide discipline.
  11. Ability to establish practices and procedures for schoolwide behavior management.
  12. Ability to use effective public relations skills necessary for the successful implementation of new programs the coordination of committees and to maintain productive relationships with students parents school employees and community members.
  13. Knowledge of Board policies and procedures.
  14. Skills that will lend themselves to the direct teaching counseling or advising of students.
  15. Ability to plan and present meaningful professional development activities for faculty and staff.

Essential Functions:

  1. Demonstrate leadership administrative and supervisory qualities.
  2. Manage evaluate and supervise effective and clear procedures for the operation and functioning of the school consistent with the philosophy mission values and goals of the school including instructional programs extracurricular activities and discipline systems to ensure a safe and orderly climate building maintenance program evaluation personnel management office operations and emergency procedures.
  3. Supervise the instructional programs of the school evaluating lesson plans and observing classes on a regular basis to encourage the use of a variety of instructional strategies and materials consistent with research on learning and child growth and development and in line with the districts instructional expectations.
  4. Coordinate and assist in recruiting screening interviewing selecting training and assigning of the schools certified and classified staff.
  5. Supervise observe and evaluate all certified and classified staff.
  6. Interpret and enforce federal and state laws and state and local board policies.
  7. Supervise school finances by preparing and recommending capital and operating budgets for the school establish and maintain fiscal records and control expenditures within approved budgets.
  8. Assume responsibility for scheduling and determining the work assignment of all professional personnel assigned to the school.
  9. Assist in the development organization and administration of the schools extracurricular and cocurricular programs.
  10. Ensure that students receive appropriate placement and services.
  11. Assume responsibility for his/her own professional growth and development through membership and participation in professional organizations and meetings and attendance at regional state and national meetings.
  12. Demonstrate proficiency in written and oral communication.
  13. Become proficient and knowledgeable relative to all aspects of the schools computerized student management system.
  14. Develop and encourage programs of orientation and professional growth for teachers and others within the school.
  15. Provide professional development activities for assistant principals.
  16. Collaborate with assistant principals in daily operations of the school.
  17. Provide an environment of high expectations for staff and students.
  18. Confer and cooperate with central office personnel in the total operation of the school program.
  19. Maintain effective communication with the staff and District through planning and informational meetings.
  20. Maintain effective twoway communications and favorable relationships with parents individuals and community groups to foster understanding and solicit support for school programs objectives and needs.
  21. Willingness to participate in educational civic and community involvement.
  22. Maintain standards of student discipline designed to command the respect of students and parents and to minimize school and classroom interruptions.
  23. Provide proper supervision for all student activities both on and off campus.
  24. Ensure a safe learning and working environment through the maintenance of student order and discipline planning and supervision of emergency preparedness programs as required by law and coordination of safety inspections.
  25. Knowledgeable of special education policy and procedures specifically in the area of discipline and insure all requirements of special education are met.
  26. Direct and supervise all school support services and physical plant operations to ensure the proper care maintenance neatness and cleanliness of the schools buildings and grounds.
  27. Take responsibility for securing maintaining and managing material resources.
  28. This position will be subject to the Students First Act of 2011. Madison City Schools reserves the right to fill this position by transfer of a qualified applicant who is already employed by Madison City Schools
