POSITION SUMMARY:
- Supervise 12 assistants
- Supervise SLPAs speechlanguage pathology services to students with speech voice or language disorders
- Assess students attend ARD meetings and provide assistant(s) guidance for therapeutic intervention to eliminate or reduce problems or impairments that interfere with their students ability to derive full benefit from the educational program
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
- Masters degree in speechlanguage pathology from an accredited college or university
- Valid Texas license as a speechlanguage pathologist granted by the Texas Department of Licensing (TDLR)
Experience:
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to use the accepted tests and measurements to assess communication disorders and conditions
- Knowledge of evaluation habilitation and rehabilitation of speechlanguage disorders and conditions
- Ability to instruct and manage student behavior
- Excellent organizational
- Ability to communicate well in oral and written form
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE SPECIAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT:
Supervise Assistant(s) Therapy:
- Plan and provide individual and group therapy aligned with IEP speech and language goals
- Evaluate student progress and determine continuation or termination of services
- Maintain updated documentation per TEA TDLR and IDEA guidelines
- Program monitor and consult on augmentative communication devices including designing lowtech solutions
Assessment:
- Conduct independent evaluations to determine eligibility under IDEA
- Develop management strategies procedures and diagnostic statements
- Participate in ARD meetings for the interpretation of data placement and goalsetting
- Administer initial and reevaluations per FIE timelines
- Write FIE reports in accordance with TEA IDEA and district policies
- Communicate FIE results with parents and staff
- Provide consultation in complex assessment situations
- Perform screenings when appropriate
Consultation:
- Engage parents in the remedial process
- Consult with parents general and special education teachers to support IEPs
- Collaborate with teachers to improve communication skills in various settings
- Provide professional development to identify referrals and understand communication deficits
- Communicate progress and needs with colleagues students and parents
- Consult with school staff and assessment contractors in complex cases
- Provide consultation to district administrators and instructional staff
- Collaborate with ARDCF Educational Diagnosticians and LSSPs for program management
Student Management:
- Ensure assistants create a supportive and ageappropriate learning environment
- Ensure assistants follow discipline guidelines per the Student Code of Conduct and BIPs
Administration:
- Compile and maintain reports including documentation for NPI Medicaid and SHARS
- Follow federal/state laws TDLR regulations and district/board policies
- Participate in professional development activities
- Provide documentation for RTI therapy attendance and ARDs as requested
- Ensure compliance with TDLR licensing requirements
Admission Review & Dismissal (ARD):
- Complete ARD paperwork per TEA IDEA and district policies
- Maintain electronic and paper documentation as required
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervise direct and monitor the work of speechlanguage pathology assistants clinical fellows or graduate students as agreed upon by the district and supervising SLP
