Canadas Drug Agency (CDAAMC) is a panCanadian health organization. We are an independent notforprofit organization headquartered in Ottawa with a satellite office in Toronto. Primary Focus

The Ethics Advisor oversees the conduct and reporting of ethical reviews applying appropriate methodologies and standards. This role ensures compliance with internal processes policies and procedures to produce methodologically sound and highquality reports thereby maintaining the organizations credibility. Additionally the Ethics Advisor contributes to advancing the integration of ethics into the work of CDAAMC.

What do the daily responsibilities look like

On any given day the Ethics Advisor will:

  • oversee and conduct ethics reviews for drug products medical devices and other clinical interventions undergoing health technology assessment by CDAAMC; ensuring methodological rigour in both the conduct and reporting of these ethics reviews
  • provide subject matter expertise and guidance to employees and ethics contractors conducting ethics reviews
  • contribute to scoping for the ethics domain of our projects
  • act as the project owner for ethics reviews providing project oversight including the work of contractors or other employees contributing to ethics reviews and ensuring completion of ethics reviews within timelines
  • contribute to the advancement of how ethics is integrated into the work of CDAAMC
  • participate in technical education and training on ethics for internal employees committees or our partners.

Is this the right role for you

The Ethics Advisor will likely have:

  • an advanced graduate degree (PhD or equivalent) in moral philosophy bioethics or healthrelated social sciences with a minimum of 3 years of experience in policy or applied environments
  • demonstrated knowledge and experience in conducting applied ethics analyses including appraising and synthesizing relevant literature identifying values of partners and articulating the ethical considerations in a written report
  • indepth knowledge of classical theories of moral philosophy and common ethical issues that arise in health care
  • an understanding of the health care system in Canada relevant legislation regulation and decisionmaking processes in the pathway to bring health technologies into the health system
  • excellent oral and written communication skills and a demonstrated strength in report writing and communicating complex subject matter in a clear manner
  • the ability to speak effectively before expert groups and/or diverse audiences
  • experience working collaboratively as part of multidisciplinary teams with different expertise in ethical considerations
  • the ability to work well with others in a fastpaced dynamic environment prioritizing and balancing multiple competing tasks effectively
  • the ability to be respectful approachable and teamoriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.

  • experience working within the health care system providing support to health care professionals or patients in dealing with ethical considerations in health care or other experience in ethics applied to a health care context
  • fluency in French.
