The Williamsport Area School District is accepting applications for an anticipated position for a High School Drama & Communications Teacher (with English Certification) for theschool year. The location is at the Williamsport Area High School or at the determination of the Superintendent salary as per the current contract schedule. Job requirements as per job description to include current PDE certification in Secondary English.
The criteria used for determining eligibility when applying for posted vacancies is seniority date. This date is a reference to the employees start date as a permanent employee with the district.
- Professional staff who have been in the District fewer than four years must complete 4 years before applying for internal vacancies.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
BASIC FUNCTION
The Drama and Communications Teacher plans and administers the Drama Public Speaking and Communications instructional programs and classroom operations in compliance with guidelines and regulations determined by the administration Board of Directors state and federal agencies. The teacher will create an environment that encourages learning motivates students to develop skills attitudes and knowledge needed to establish and continue a firm foundation for postsecondary education and career opportunities.
The Drama and Communications Teacher will utilize all resources available to establish a cooperative relationship with parents staff members and administrators to support each students opportunity to learn and grow in educational and life position of Drama and Communications Teacher is a 188day position and shall include active participation in the schools operation to support a positive learning environment. This position reports to and is evaluated annually by the Building Principal and/or their designee.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
The requirements for this position are a minimum of a bachelors degree and appropriate Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) certification in English and Drama along with qualifications prescribed by law.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The Drama and Communications Teacher will demonstrate proficiency with the WASD Drama Public Speaking and Communications curriculum Benchmarks PA Standards and appropriate assessments. The teacher will strengthen their abilities by reviewing innovative programs supported by best practices and research.
The Drama and Communications Teacher must be able to articulate the school and district goals regarding Drama Public Speaking and secondary educational programs to staff students parents and community members. The teacher must possess the knowledge pedagogical abilities and attitudes necessary to be a successful scholar decisionmaker and agent for curriculum enhancement and change. The teacher must be comfortable using computer and technological applications as educational tools including utilizing email Microsoft Word spreadsheets and curriculumbased software.
AUTHORITY AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (E) Designates Essential Functions)
- Teaches Drama 1 2 3 4 and Drama Studio providing instruction in theatrical performance stage production and dramatic literature. (E)
- Teaches Public Speaking and Communications providing students with skills in effective oral presentation speech writing and media literacy. (E)
- Teaches TV Production guiding students in the creation production and broadcasting of studentled media projects. (E)
- Provides instruction in a special education drama class adapting the curriculum to support diverse learning needs. (E)
- Develops clear and appropriate lesson plans and identifies instructional materials on a weekly basis. (E)
- Selects designs and organizes objectives strategies and materials for teaching Drama and Communications incorporating research findings in the instructional program. (E)
- Provides individualized and smallgroup instruction (as necessary) to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil. Differentiates instruction for students based on need and works with students and other teachers in inclusive settings.
- Establishes and maintains standards of behavior in the classroom and throughout the school to achieve a positive and functional learning atmosphere for students. (E)
- Evaluates students academic and social growth keeps appropriate records prepares student progress reports and provides accurate and constructive feedback to students and parents. (E)
- Uses data to improve the learning and instruction process. (E)
- Cooperates with other professional staff members to identify student needs and develop assessments to support student success.
- Creates an effective learning environment.
- Participates in the selection of books and other instructional materials.
- Supervises students in outofclassroom activities during the assigned workday. (E)
- Participates in curriculum development programs.
- Participates in faculty committees meetings and other facultysponsored programs supporting the educational program.
- Maintains professional competence through Districtsponsored inservice programs and approved professional development activities. (E)
- Demonstrates regular and timely attendance. (E)
- Collaborates and cooperates with other professional staff members and administrators in facilitating the delivery of the entire educational program to students including art ESC music physical education remedial and gifted programs.
- Follows all Board policies and building procedures and submits required information and reports within identified timelines. (E)
- Oversees the Drama Club which meets during school hours and the Without a Cue performance group which meets after school and presents a production once a month. (E)
- Coordinates the annual fall play and the studentled spring production supporting students in performance direction and stage management. (E)
- Experience in directing and producing school theater productions including set design costume design lighting and sound.
- Promote and facilitate student participation in extracurricular clubs and activities that foster growth in theatre.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Building Principal Superintendent or their designee.
