Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Executive Director of Education Dept./School: Curriculum and Instruction

Reports to: Assistant Superintendent of Education Date Revised: 32124

Primary Purpose:

Direct manage and provide leadership in the planning delivery assessment and ongoing improvement of academic programs and campus operations for the district. Ensures the district/school educational objectives are aligned to state frameworks and to research based instructional practices that yield the highest standards of student achievement instructional excellence and community support in all subject areas.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification/Experience:

Masters degree from accredited university

Valid Texas teaching certificate

Superintendent Certification (preferred)

Minimum of three years of demonstrated successful campus administrative experience

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of curriculum design and implementation

Ability to interpret data and evaluate instruction programs and teaching effectiveness

Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners

Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional and Program Management

  1. Build a collaborative supervisory relationship with principals in order to ensure curriculum and instruction is effectively facilitated and leads to increased student achievement through research based instructional strategies and data driven decision making.
  2. Provide and oversee the professional development and coaching of campus principals as their direct supervisor and evaluator.
  3. Oversee the development and delivery of curriculum and instructional programs that incorporate district goals and support student achievement.
  4. Direct instructional coaches in implementing instructional programs and providing ongoing professional development to teachers and support staff.
  5. Collaborate with curriculum specialists principals teachers and other instructional staff to review develop and revise all subject area programs related curriculum documents and materials including curriculum guides course outlines and teaching plans.
  6. Coordinate local and state assessment programs and make recommendations for improvement where appropriate.
  7. Coordinate the ordering and use of departmental instructional resources and materials.
  8. Monitor and reevaluate instructional programs on an ongoing basis using input from teachers and principals applied research and student data to determine effectiveness and improve outcomes. Recommend changes and adjustments where appropriate.
  9. Participate in development preparation and administration of the budget for program subscriptions supplies equipment and facilities.

Staff Development

  1. Provide and oversee the development and delivery of professional development programs that incorporate district goals and support student achievement. Develop longrange plan of professional development to further the district vision.
  2. Monitor and evaluate professional development programs on an ongoing basis using input from teachers and principals applied research and student data to determine effectiveness and improve outcomes. Recommend changes and adjustments where appropriate.

Policy Reports and Law

  1. Implement the policies established by federal and state law State Board of Education rule and local board policy in curriculum and instruction area.
  2. Compile maintain and file all reports records and other documents as required.
  3. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Budget

  1. Develop and administer the curriculum and instruction budget based on documented program needs and ensure that operations are cost effective and funds are managed prudently.

Personnel Management

  1. Prepare review and revise job descriptions in curriculum and instruction department.
  2. Evaluate job performance of employees to ensure effectiveness.
  3. Select train evaluate and supervise staff and make recommendations relative to assignment retention discipline and dismissal.

Communication

  1. Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with principals instructional coaches teachers staff parents and community members.

Community Relations

  1. Articulate the districts mission instructional philosophy and curriculum implementation strategies to the community and solicit its support in realizing districts mission.
  2. Demonstrate awareness of districtcommunity needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
  3. Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise evaluate and recommend the hiring and firing of campus administrators and staff in the curriculum and instruction department.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals

Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping pushing/pulling and twisting

Motion: Repetitive hand motions frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching

Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)

Environment: Frequent districtwide travel; occasional statewide travel

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
