Job Description

Title: Building and Grounds Maintenance I (General)

Reports to:Director of Facilities

Hours: 7:00 3:00pm

Supervises:Assigned facility and/or may include the training of new employees

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the central office (after employment offer is made).
  • Five years of experience in Maintenance.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in the basic techniques of electrical repair plumbing maintenance carpentry and ground maintenance.
  • Ability to manually lift a maximum of 60 pounds.
  • Desire to continue career improvement by enhancing skills and job performance.

Purpose and Objectives of the Position:

Maintenance I is an important member of the school staff as he/she must continually strive to maintain and improve the physical environment in which learning takes place. This effort requires not only his/her assistance as directed by the Director of Facilities but also the ability to see needs and correct them without specific direction. In addition he/she will provides a safe attractive comfortable and clean environment to ensure full and productive use of district facilities.

Special Skills Knowledge Abilities:

  • Must have knowledge of and ability to perform plumbing work that would pass any City or required plumbing inspections.
  • Communication Skills (oral written or business). Basic communication skills to exchange information give/receive simple instructions and respond to inquiries. Includes filling out forms.
  • Mathematical Skills: Performs routine computations requiring a knowledge of addition subtraction multiplication and division using whole numbers fractions decimals and/or percentages.
  • Reading and Interpreting: Reads and interprets complex written or printed materials such as schematics blueprints building plans charts diagrams maps or instruction material.
  • Tools and Equipment Usage (other than keyboards or office machines): Uses tools or equipment with expertise acquired through extensive experience and/or specialized training. The most complex tools or equipment necessary to perform satisfactory include: sewer machine trencher fusion tool and torch.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Ability to provide a safe attractive comfortable and clean environment to ensure full and productive use of district facilities.
  • Ability to coordinate and supervise the activities of the custodial staff.
  • Ability to promote a caring helping attitude toward staff students and patrons and convey that attitude in all that he/she does.
  • Ability to supervise motivate and direct employees to develop to fullest potential.
  • Ability to ensure all activities conform to district guidelines.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with members of the school district and community.
  • Ability to react to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner meeting deadlines as assigned.
  • Ability to maintain a positive work attitude and show enthusiasm for work.
  • Ability to operate all equipment and machinery appropriately as required.
  • Ability to work to implement the vision and mission of the district.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Performance responsibilities general administration:

  • Ability to maintain school grounds in top condition to ensure full and productive use of district facilities.
  • Ability to ensure all activities conform to district guidelines.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with members of the school district and community.
  • Ability to react to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner and handle other tasks as assigned.
  • Ability to operate all equipment and machinery appropriately as necessary.
  • Ability to work to implement the vision and mission of the district.

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:

  • Requires physical exertion to manually move lift carry pull or push heavy objects or materials maximum of 60 pounds.
  • Requires stooping kneeling crawling bending turning and reaching.
  • Requires climbing and balancing.
  • Must work indoors and outdoors yearround.
  • Must occasionally work in noisy and crowded environments with numerous interruptions.
  • Must work in and around dust fumes and odors.

General Responsibilities:

  • Ability to receive deliver and store all school supplies.
  • Ability to set up for assemblies preparing the cafeteria for lunch moving school personnel and their equipment within the building.
  • Ability to assist in the cafeteria during lunch as instructed by the principal.
  • Ability to exercise appropriate judgment and initiative to handle emergency situations as they arise. Such things as spills sick students stoppedup stools and broken glass must be handled immediately and expeditiously along with regular duties.
  • Ability to maintain a clean building. Areas not used for instruction during the day are the head custodians major responsibility to keep clean.
  • Ability to implement the wishes of the school principal to facilitate the smooth operations of the school program.
  • Ability to maintain grounds mowing and trimming to conform to district standards.
  • Ability to observe and follow all school district policies at all times.
  • Ability to respond to information requests in a cooperative courteous and timely manner.
  • Ability to keep student and personnel information and records confidential.
  • Ability to implement and follow all health and safety policies including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
  • Ability to perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by the principal custodial supervisor or other administrative staff.

PreEmployment/Yearly Requirements:Employee shall meet all the preemployment and yearly requirements as specified in the Policies of the Board of Education.

Term of Employment: At will.

Salary:$15.00/hr based on the USD #453 Salary Schedule

FLSA Status:NonExempt; Hourly

Evaluation:Performance effectiveness will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of Board of Education Policy.
