Under general supervision the Water Treatment Plant Attendant/Operator maintains the water treatment facility including plant grounds and related pump station; conducts laboratory analysis; ensures chemical levels are monitored and maintained; performs inspections; maintains records reports and supplies.
Plant Attendant is considered an entrylevel position; those without a Ohio EPA Water Supply License will be hired in as a Plant Attendant. However candidates already possessing a water supply license will be hired in at the operator level commiserate with licensure.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: - Performs chemical treatment and purification of water according to established standards and guidelines; logs plant performance operates and adjusts pumps motors feeders and other plant equipment; regulates chemical and water flowrates;
- Monitors gauges dials graphs and other instruments; performs inspections of plant equipment inspects lines mechanical and electrical equipment boilers and heating systems; reports findings to appropriate personnel.
- Conducts laboratory analysis and ensures chemical levels are monitored and maintained in accordance with standards; maintains laboratory equipment and supplies; calibrates equipment; cleans and sterilizes lab equipment and supplies; stocks chemicals and supplies; performs chemical and bacterial analysis of water; collects and analyzes samples; evaluates results of tests; performs chemical and mechanical adjustments; maintains records of tests; performs minor and preventative maintenance on equipment.
- Monitors SCADA computer; answers phones.
- Aides the Distribution Crew as necessary. Performs plant housekeeping; sweeps and/or mops floor cleans equipment and furniture cleans spills.
- Attends meetings and serves on committees as directed; attends training and seminars as directed.
- Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions; follows OEPA and AWWA standards.
- Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Must be available for emergencies during offshift hours.
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS: - Must maintain a valid Ohio Drivers License and meet insurability requirements
Water Plant Attendant - Must be at least 18 years of age;
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent;
- Must be available to work nights and weekends;
- Must obtain Ohio Class I Water Supply License within 2 years of appointment and Operational Chemical Analysis Certificate within EPA required timeframe.
Additional Qualifiers for Water Plant Operator I II II Classification OPERATOR I: - Must possess anOhio Class I Water Supply Operator License;
- Must possess andmaintain an Operational Chemical Analysis Certificate;
- Must obtain Ohio Class II Water Supply Operator License within four 4 years of appointment.
OPERATOR II: - Must possess anOhio Class II Water Supply Operator License;
- Must possess and maintain an Operational Chemical Analysis Certificate;
- Must obtain Ohio Class III Water Supply Operator License within three 3 years of appointment.
OPERATORIII: - Must possess anOhio Class II Water Supply Operator License;
- Must possess and maintain an Operational Chemical Analysis Certificate.
The Water Plant operates continuously 24 hours a day 7 days a week so while staff are scheduled accordingly; this position may require evening overnight and weekend shifts; candidates must be available for callin emergencies.
Starting base salary will be consistent with the Citys approved pay plan which can include a 10 shift differential as per the city ordinance. Water Plant Attendant has a base hourly rate of $20.04; Operator I $23.20; Operator II $24.36; Operator III $25.58. The deadline to submit an application is noon onWednesday April 30 2025.
