Primary Purpose:
The role of the cosmetology teacher is to provide instructional activities that prepare students to pursue a career in the field of cosmetology. This is primarily done by getting students the hours needed to receive a Texas Cosmetology Operators License.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Trade and Industrial Education Grades 812
- Vocational Trades and Industry teaching certification with appropriate work approval
- Texas State Cosmetology Instructors License
- Valid Texas State Teaching License
- Valid drivers license
- Bachelors Degree in any major field and three years of fulltime wage earning experience in the occupation for which instruction is being given. (Statement of Qualifications must be approved and on file with the Texas Education Agency)
- At least 3 years of experience teaching cosmetology in a high school setting
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Excellent organizational communication and interpersonal skills
- Maintain positive relationships with teachers administrators and community members
- Ability to instruct students
- Effective presentation skills to stakeholders in oneonone small group and large group situations
- Willingness to assume leadership positions
- Experience with researchbased instructional practices
- React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned
- Read comprehend and prepare various kinds of communication including emails reports spreadsheets staff development plans educational forms etc
- Interpret and carry out oral and written instructions
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years teaching experience in a high school level cosmetology program (preferred)
