Job Description

Job Goal:Somerville Center for Adult Learning Experiences seeks a parttime evening Assessor for its English Language Learner and Adult Basic Education departments. Assessors implement DESE ACLS standard formal online academic performance assessment Tests including but not limited to MAPT TABE BEST Plus Accuplacer that assess language proficiency reading writing math and readiness of participants in postsecondary education and work contexts. Assessors may work remotely to administer facetoface remote and/or computerbased adult education standards and the language proficiency of adult English language learners in the United States. Assessors report directly to the ELL and ABE Program Administrators.

Coordinate assessment and identification of Adult Education Learners and determine appropriate placement and students academic progress. Communicate with students program administrators data clerk school personnel and the Director of Continuing Education about assessment and placement. Maintain data forms and appropriate DESE ACLS reporting related to new and returning student enrollment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Education Guidance Literacy Linguistics or related field preferred
  • Computer literacy; familiarity with data management and student information systems google docs and forms
  • Experience in teaching and assessing English language learners or literacy recommended
  • Must provide evidence of current MAPT TABE and/or BEST PLUS certification/recertification status.
  • A strong command of the English language
  • Oral and aural fluency in Haitian Creole Spanish or Portuguese preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to effectively collaborate with students teachers and SCALE administrators.
  • Excellent organizational time management oral and written communication skills in English
  • Must be collaborative and committed to continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:

  • The Assessors work collaboratively with Advisors teachers and department Program Administrators to schedule score examine and record assessment outcomes.
  • Assessors will electronically document and facilitate the calibration of students test scores.
  • Assessors are required to assess in depth knowledge of English Language grammar including an understanding of terms such as subordination additive detail emerging complexity and so forth.
  • Administers all Diagnostic and Assessment Instruments.
  • Scores and evaluates writing submissions oral portfolios and assessment items.
  • Meet with adult learners as necessary to resolve testing challenges/conflicts.
  • Responds to telephone inquiries and scheduling confirmations.
  • Conducts student and staff checkins after appropriate generalized assessment tasks.
  • Maintain DESE and SPS required files and client records as directed.
  • Schedule student appointments
  • Documents testing activities and document workflow challenges.
  • Collaborate with all SCALE staff to support all SCALE learners

Terms of Employment:

  • Part Time / Grant Funded
  • 9/1/2024 9/30/2025
  • 3 evenings per week
  • 9hours per week
  • Union position

Salary:Salary and benefits in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement. (If applicable please attach school transcripts with application)
